Opens 19 May 2026 ✨   Get a behind-the-scenes look at our upcoming exhibition — ‘The Evocative Head: Fragmentation as Language in Ng Eng Teng’s Works’   How does an artist develop a visual language of his own? What imagery does he draw from? ‘The Evocative Head’ revisits Ng Eng Teng’s interest in fragmenting the human body, specifically the head, as a means of developing his artistic expression.   The human head serves as a compelling entry point into Ng’s artistic practice, having been a central subject during his formative years. It reveals both traces of his artistic training and the development of a repertoire of images that he continually revisited and reconfigured. His process of abstracting the human head drew on ceramics, painting, and sculpture, reshaping it through distortion, simplification, and hybridisation.

Honoured to host a thank-you lunch for Mr Peter Lee, nephew of Ms Agnes Tan and grandnephew of Tun Tan Cheng Lock, in appreciation of his family’s partnership in preserving Singapore’s heritage through the NUS Baba House — one of Singapore’s remaining Straits Chinese townhouses managed by the NUS Museum. We are deeply grateful for the major gift from the Tun Tan Cheng Lock Trust, which will accelerate our vision to grow the NUS Baba House into a research-driven global hub for Peranakan culture. This partnership will power new research, expand public engagement, and unlock digital access to an extensive collection of artefacts for audiences around the world. Together, we are safeguarding the past and inspiring future generations through Peranakan heritage, education and research. Over a 4-day workshop with Malaysia-based artist collective Pangrok Sulap, students explore how ideas are translated into visual imagery through collective design. Through the themes of the arts, community, leadership, and sports, students looked for experiences that resonate widely, surfacing familiar sights and moments. These ideas translated into woodprint designs, which will be collaged together for a mural installation at YIH. Read more in the #linkinbio #NUSlife #YIHnspire

A little throwback to recess week 🎨✨ Some students spent their break carving murals for the new YIH, and honestly? It reminded us that some of the best memories happen outside the classroom 💫. From carving and printing grand ideas to new friendships — it’s all part of what makes campus life so fun 💙 Here's your reminder to take time off, pick a new activity, and take it slow this NUS Well-Being Day 🍃😌 #YIHnspire #NUSlife #studentlife

How would one navigate a museum's archives?    The refreshed Resource Library unfolds as a site of study and encounter accessible by appointment, where books, archives, and curatorial inquiries coincide. This introduction brings visitors around the space, flowing through ideas of “reading” and “writing” as ways of encountering and interpreting the Museum’s archives. Join Assistant Curator, Samantha Yap on Day 3 of Museum Research Week, 26 March at 2PM to get a preview of NUS Museum's Resource Library!

Your story of #NUSLife – now in a woodblock carving 💙 Inspired by the themes of Arts, Community & Leadership, and Sports, students brought their campus experiences to life at a woodblock printing workshop organised by NUS and Malaysia-based artist collective Pangrok Sulap 🎨✨ Each carving reflects a unique perspective, and will be integrated into a vibrant woodcut mural that will be installed at NUS Yusof Ishak House, the heart of student life on campus. This collaborative artwork will join a growing collection of public art across NUS as part of the NUS Public Art Initiative, launched in 2022 and managed by the NUS Museum. Through site-specific works like this, the initiative brings campus spaces to life, sparks connections, and creates opportunities for students to engage, learn, and collaborate across disciplines. The initiative also offers more ways to explore art on campus, including student-led tours of over 40 public art pieces! 👀 Find out more at nus.edu/newsnow or hit the link in bio! ‘Interspace’ began as an experiment to extend exhibitions beyond NUS Museum’s physical boundaries. It treats mobility as more than dissemination, proposing that a structure can possess agency—fostering dialogue, shaping collaboration, and responding to its surrounding site.    Join us this Thursday, 26 March, 5pm at NUS Museum for the Soft Launch of the project. Project Assistant, Aqil Akmal and Artist, Ong Chan Hao @chan.psb will share insights into their design and creative processes, offering perspectives on the methods and approaches behind this collaborative work with the Museum. See you there! Register through link in bio.   Images: 1) Putting together modular display structures of ‘Interspace’. 2) Display cart component of ‘Interspace’. 3) Detail of ‘The Jungle is Still Loading’ (2026), by Ong Chan Hao   📷 by @jonathantyl
