ENTANGLED AGENCIES MODULE 1 REFLECTION: INSTRUCTING AND INSTRUCTED ✏️💻 In Module 1, helmed by artist-fellow Isabella Ong, we explored instruction not as command but as correspondence—a relational process between human, machine, and material that dismantles established frameworks of creative authorship. Drawing from Sol LeWitt’s instruction-based wall drawings and Vera Molnár’s early computational art, Isabella reframed code as notation: a creative language comparable to architectural drawings, musical scores, and conceptual art instructions. In her introductory lecture and artist talk on 27 November 2025, Isabella expanded on the poetic and procedural dimensions of code, proposing that coding be understood as a notation system—ambiguous, fertile, and open-ended rather than deterministic. The guest lecture by Zi Hao elaborated on instruction through the language of mapping, ecology, and representation, reframing drawing and mapping as acts of knowledge construction—ways of teaching materials, places, and technologies to “reveal each other”. A Q&A moderated by Ong Keng Pian built upon a common conceptual bridge: instruction and interpretation are inseparable, whether we’re coding, mapping, or making worlds. Module 1’s workshops on 6 December 2025 explored how instructions become drawings and artefacts by moving participants between analogue and digital processes. Participants translated Sol LeWitt’s wall drawing instructions, reverse-engineered existing works, and exchanged rule-based drawings to see how descriptive choices shape outcomes. An introduction to p5.js framed code as “sentence sketches,” with exercises highlighting shifts from language to image to code. The group created collaborative wall drawings after Sol LeWitt 51, responding to architectural features in the space, before compiling their works into a book-as-exhibition format. How can we trust the map when it records streets and districts, yet leaves out tides, fields, and the lives that worked them? Fireflies and Constellations by Wong Zi Hao, presented by Superlative Futures @superlative_everything , re-draws J. B. Tassin’s 1836 Map of the Town and Environs of Singapore. Resisting the grid and its narrative of progress and control, the diptych turns our attention to grounds since erased/absorbed or forgotten. Through pricked surfaces and illuminated voids, light returns to what was submerged. Points gather like constellations or fireflies, linking present environmental urgencies with submerged pasts and possible futures- in a quiet strangeness. In Singapore, archives often appear bound to official narratives that keep history still. The Strange Archive reimagines the archive as a restless, shifting terrain, treating the archive as something alive, uncertain, and at times uncanny, where familiar histories can be seen anew. Superlative Futures (@superlative_everything ), a transdisciplinary design and research studio, contributes through the practice of Wong Zi Hao. His ‘Stories of Ground’ gathers newspaper fragments, cartographic reinterpretations, and speculative seed architectures to imagine alternative ecologies—new “memory palaces” recalling the substrate of ground beneath the city’s rigid surfaces. The work surfaces overlooked local histories that persist in the interstices of urban life, proposing speculative worlds rooted in the material traces of place. Join us for We Made This Monster Weekend Talk. Azure Chaya (@feelers_feelers ) x Isabella Ong (@isabella_ong_ ) x Wong Zi Hao (@superlative_everything ), Moderated by Dr. Adrian Tan (@adriantanpc ). Sunday, 26 October 2025, 3—5PM Lim Hak Tai Gallery, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Hybrid worlds & speculative futures: exploring agency across machines, materials, and nature. Azure Chaya is a multidisciplinary creative whose practice is grounded in the human experience, perpetual exploration, and meaningful exchange. She currently serves as the Design Lead at Feelers, a research lab focused on the intersection of art and technology. - Isabella Ong is a Singapore-based artist whose work explores the relationship between data, form and environment. Working across installation, code and text, she examines how ecological, cultural and technical systems are structured and represented. Her practice engages with material processes alongside physical computation and generative methods, translating natural phenomena into spatial and visual languages. - WONG Zi Hao (PhD in Research by Design, NUS) is an artist, designer, researcher, and educator. He directs Superlative Futures, a transdisciplinary research practice exploring the creative interstices of design fiction and speculative care, to probe new practices of ecological (re)making for our cities and urban selves.

Join us at our main site, Arts Resource Hub @ 42 Waterloo Street Last 3 nights (4 - 6 Sep) of The @listeningbiennialsg during the @sgnightfest “New Practices for Tidal Attunement” by Superlative Futures (Singapore) Architecture-trained duo Superlative Futures @superlative_everything take the site of 42 Waterloo Street as a point for creative departure 🌬️ Their tactile and sonic installations prompt more careful attunement to the weathering world, bringing the shifting tidal edges of the island into the city 🏙️ The artists speculate with meanings of wetness to evoke a different imagination of dry, interiorized city centers, through the sounds of monsoonal downpours 🌧️ mangrove ecologies, urban floods, architectural leakages, and not least the slippery and soaking grounds of former coastlines 🏖️ or padi terrains 🌾 or whichever watery landscapes that Beras Basah (which means “wet rice”) conjures in its namesake. Three artworks trace alternative urban practices for attuning with tidal temporalities, weather wetting and drying, soaking and draining, eroding and sedimenting, to recall the intertidal zone’s shapeshifting temporalities of land-water transformations. The sound-based installations which surround the heritage building, conjure the ghostly natures of tidal landscapes that are revealed in the moon-lit night 🌘 We invite you to imagine walking in the dark as one trespasses into a mangrove forest at night and to slow down with us as you build this coral city with us 🪸🚶🌃 Photo Credit: Poh Yu Khing @pyk.photos Courtesy of the Listening Biennial Singapore #tidalattunement #ecology #weathering #listeningbiennialsg #listeningbiennial #thirdlistening #SNF2025 #SNFIslandNights #SGFestivals #sgnightfest @listeningbiennialsg @listeningbiennial @sgnightfest

Attuning to the low spring tides in August, audiences are led through an imaginary intertidal walk within the grounds of 42 Waterloo Street by Superlative Futures. The two artists, Zi Hao Wong and Diancong Liu @superlative_everything , playing the roles of “intertidal guides” will lead groups of participants in 30-min walks to search for imaginary edge-worlds where the sea, its tides 🌊, and monsoonal wetness 🌧️, blow and seep into urban and architectural interiors 🏙️ The walks are guided experiments that pose another view of the city through slow and deep time 🌀🌀🌀 Thank you everyone for embarking on this journey of attuning to the tides with us. Writing some invitations to you: come see some new work by Superlative Futures, if you are free this weekend or the next, or anytime during the weekday nights! Superlative Futures are part of the Listening Biennale (also featured as programs in the Singapore Night Festival at the Bras Basah area) and we welcome you to join us in a (slower) time of tidal attuning, sensing with wetness, and becoming coral. The art installations are open to the public at night from 6pm onwards, and I will be there this Saturday 23/8, and on next Friday 29/8 we will be conducting an "intertidal" walk inside the compounds of 42 Waterloo Street. The venue is 42 Waterloo Street, Singapore 187951 (a blue house in the middle of Waterloo), come and see/hear art, and chat.
