Common Threads, you were magic! Looking back at our night of connection, heritage and creative energy last summer with Angel of @av_misc The conversations, shared stories and powerful reflections are still sitting with me in the best possible way. So grateful to have been part of something that celebrated our shared culture, identity and the beauty of coming together. I put together a write-up on my website if you’d like to revisit the evening, or catch up if you missed it! It’s been a pleasure co-working with @lyndalorraine on the first-ever Common Threads panel series, which opened up an in-depth yet genuinely open conversation with @cntrfld.art . Lynda’s work with Avianne Communications (@av_misc ) sparked another dialogue where she shared the importance, challenges, and beauty of navigating contemporary art as a woman of mixed heritage. This weekend – from 14–16 November – Lynda will be one of the featured artists for the first ever 4th Wave Art Gallery Exhibition, hosted by Maharlika UK in support of Arts Council England. Lynda shares: “I want Filipinos to feel the power of return — to our authentic stories and our self-agency. The body of work I’m showing for Maharlika Wave 4 carries the energy of a beautiful summer spent creating with our kababayan, where art revived ancient memories buried deep and became both connection and reclamation. “It’s a poignant reminder that we’ve always had the power to define ourselves. The pieces move between memory, protest, and visual expression – beautifully celebrating Filipino identity while questioning how our stories have been historically framed.” Join her and more artists this weekend. 📅 14-16 November 2025 📍 @83rivingtonstreet in Shoreditch, London. Tickets in the bio / more info at @maharlikauk . ON SCREEN: 1 – Imagery by @emmanuelsaintart 2 – ‘I Am’ Workshop; still from The Warrior’s Soul PART 1, Maharlika III; ‘Mum’ oil on canvas; ‘Veil’ acrylic on canvas 3 – CNTRFLD interview 4 – Common Threads panel series, August 2025

« Navigating the contemporary art world as a woman of mixed heritage brings challenges: visibility, cultural translation, disconnection, and the pressure to access platforms without tokenism or compromising authenticity. These experiences have clarified my role in creating space for intersectional, diasporic stories that are often overlooked. »—Lynda Lorraine. Lynda Lorraine is a British Anglo-Filipina contemporary artist, filmmaker and creative educator whose practice spans portraiture, installation, movement and film. Based in London, her work amplifies the voices of the Filipino diaspora, dismantling stereotypes and reclaiming erased histories through memory, myth-making and cultural reconnection. As founder of Lynda Lorraine Studio, she bridges art, education and community through commissions, film production, panel series and collaborative cultural projects that centre inclusivity, dialogue and visibility. Recent projects include Hidden (Royal College of Art), Heart of the Nation (Migration Museum), and Common Threads, a 2025 collaboration with Angel Vianne spotlighting emerging Asian creatives in London. Through its panel dialogues, visual branding and storytelling, Common Threads created a safe and celebratory space for culture, identity and shared heritage, embodying Lorraine’s commitment to community-led creativity. Alongside her ongoing role with Maharlika UK Filipino Artists and her postgraduate study in Creative Education at the Royal College of Art, she continues to transform visual traditions into acts of resistance, acceptance and renewal.  In this conversation with CNTRFLD.ART, Lorraine reflects on her heritage, creative journey, and the intersections of art, identity and diaspora in her practice. Shifting (2025) by mmii (@mmii.work ) is an immersive two-part experience exploring climate change, human impact, and our coexistence with nature. Created by digital artist duo Sami Malla (@sam.i.did ) and Junghyun Kim (@i_am_jung_hyun ) as part of MA Digital Direction (RCA, Graduated 2024), in collaboration with Hoo Kim (MA Design Product, Graduated 2024) for Part 1. Part 1 presents a sensor-driven wooden panel installation arranged like tree rings. Once touched, a digital olive tree comes alive, symbolising how human touch connects to ecological fragility. Part 2 guides participants through a virtual environment shaped by ultrasonic plant sounds, where they explore abstract olive tree sculptures, uncover hidden elements, and move beyond set paths. Together, both parts invite reflection on the ecological shift of olive trees (Olea europaea), a species historically tied to humanity but increasingly unable to survive in traditional regions due to climate change — a metaphor for the broader transformation of our relationship with nature. This was made using TouchDesigner, Arduino, Unreal Engine, Blender, and Max 9. “Shifting (2025) – Part 2” was presented through video projection at Common Threads (Aug 2025), a panel series highlighting emerging London-based creatives reflecting on culture, identity, and creative practice — founded by @av_misc in collaboration with @lyndalorraine #rca #digitaldirection #productdesign #mmii #immersiveinstallation #digitalart #unrealengine #touchdesigner #arduinoart #climatechangeart #interactiveinstallation #newmediaart #blender #max9

Home, memory and identity are never fixed - they shift, overlap, and invite many interpretations. I draw a lot of inspiration on Stuart Hall’s ideas of representation, shaping the way I document and tell stories, no matter the medium. Thank you @av_misc & @lyndalorraine for creating a space for these conversations. 📍 @damsel.collective 📹 @calvintcao #filipinostories #culturalexchange #paneltalk #emergingartists #filipinoartist #culturalheritage #artdirection
