My catwalk design from last year I didn’t talk about this often, this is my runway look I designed, sewed, made from scratch and brought from concept to completion. I felt very lucky being selected for GFW23 last year, to showcase one of my designs. My design project was inspired by none other than, my homeland, Philippines, and the recollection of memories of when I was a young child, combined with my love for my own art and print techniques, exploring texture. I think it’s important to celebrate the wins in your life and remember your milestones, without judgment or criticism for yourself, as it’s easy to get lost in self doubt. Heavy criticism has stopped me from sharing this moment as an achievement but I’d like to be able to share this during a time I feel ready to share, which I feel is ok now as an acceptance of previous work being part of your journey and that there is always room to grow and become better. This is a reminder to be proud of your work, especially when you’re young and coming from ethnic minority backgrounds, being able to express your culture and celebrate it on a big platform is definitely a win.
