I finally framed my Art on Barton @artonbarton photographs taken by the Mark Segal @markdsegal to document the Neon Room I created for this immersive mural art project!
I’m sharing quick insights into the Art on Barton project as a whole, revealing some decisions that took place in the creation process of my room, and providing some behind-the-scenes information that you may not have heard before.
The Neon Room reflects my creative vision and passion for vibrant colours, blending black light with neon colours to create an immersive mural art experience.

Like many of the Barton artists, @pokitoe took inspiration from objects found around the house, creating a psychedelic feast for the eyes. Featuring special guest @juliaprajza , this bedroom was a crowd favourite. We hope you enjoy witnessing the epic transformation. Happy one year anniversary!

There were so many treasures inside the Barton House that we had to sort out before the interior transformations could begin. All these objects helped connect us to the history of the house and informed the directions many of the artists took. Some of them may look familiar because they either inspired murals or became part of the artwork itself. Can you spot any of them?

It was almost exactly one year ago that @junekima.rt painted the inaugural mural for @artonbarton 💖🐯🎨
This was the day we had a yard sale to raise money for the project - a “pay what you want” fundraiser that helped us introduce ourselves to the community. Everyone was so supportive from the get-go, clearly appreciating our use of this empty house that was, at the time, slated to be demolished in August but ended up lasting until April! What a joy to have this art for so long! So much better than a sad, overgrown house. Heck, we should do this to every empty house in the city! Imagine how that would benefit neighbourhood and artists!

Who could have predicted that this one little email was going to result in an awesome project of epic proportions. It brought community together, became our art clubhouse for the summer, yielded amazing murals, and inspired @commongroundsolutions - our new company that will continue to transform liminal spaces into immersive art experiences (know of any potential properties? Let’s talk!).

As always we have so much gratitude to @greenstreetflats for saying yes to this wild idea, to the artists who gave their time to this passion project, and to everyone who came to experience the house in all its glory.

The Art on Barton @artonbarton house has been demolished. This marks a chapter in the Art on Barton story, but not the end.
I visited the property to see the absence for myself. Where a house once stood as a portal to magical possibilities and a supportive structure to over 40 local artists during the summer of 2024, has now transformed once more into a pile of rumble that contains potential for its next chapter.

Well that’s an official wrap for @artonbarton ! Thank you @stephvonawesome for swinging big and taking a chance by sending that email to the developers. So many incredibly talented humans in one place. This was a dream project to be a part of and the summer of 24’ will go down as one of my favourites. Here’s to many more 🥂✨
