Film to Digital, Done Right“ Mark Segal (markdsegal) at photoSCHWEIZ 2026 (@photo_schweiz ) If you’re in Switzerland and planning to visit photoSCHWEIZ 2026, here’s something worth flagging. Our good friend and FRAMES contributor, Mark Segal, will be leading a focused two-hour workshop on digitising and processing film negatives — converting them into high-quality digital positives using today’s tools and workflows. With film photography clearly enjoying a strong revival, this is exactly the kind of practical, experience-driven session many photographers are looking for. 📍 Kongresshaus Zürich 🗓 Saturday, February 7, 2026 🕒 3:00 PM The workshop is officially listed as part of the photoSCHWEIZ PhotoSchool programme and will run if enough seats are filled — so if this topic speaks to you, booking early really helps make it happen. Mark will also be around the fair on Friday and Saturday, so it’s a great chance to say hello in person. 👉 Full workshop details & booking via the photoSCHWEIZ website: /events/photointernational/1930508

I shall be conducting this workshop at PhotoSCHWEIZ in Zurich Switzerland, February 7, 2026, 3 PM. Digitizing Film CHF 120.00 Datum: 07.02.2026 15:00 - Mark Segal As traditional film scanners become less common, the use of digital cameras to digitize film has grown rapidly. At the same time, film photography itself is experiencing a remarkable revival — with many photographers digitizing their negatives for preservation, printing, and presentation. This workshop is designed for anyone interested in mastering modern techniques for digitizing film and post-processing digital images of colour and black-and-white negatives. Over the course of roughly 90 minutes of presentation and 30 minutes of discussion, we’ll explore both the theory and practice of film digitization. The session combines illustrated slides, diagrams, and real-time demonstrations using Adobe Lightroom and Negative Lab Pro. If you will be in Zurich and wish to attend (for a fee) you may sign-up here: /events/photointernational/1930508 BTW, I shot this photo in Cairo, year 2000 at the "City of the Dead" using film.

In the blink of an eye the house was gone. It was bound to happen. I like to think that the ephemeral nature of @artonbarton made us appreciate it even more. There’s a beautiful book of photos commemorating the project by @markdsegal - send him a message if you’d be interested in getting your hands in a copy. 📸 Artist Spotlight: Mark Segal 🌍 We are thrilled to introduce Mark Segal, who will join the first session of our upcoming exhibition Architecture—Structure & Soul. Mark will showcase two stunning works: Rathaus Basel, 1963 and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Milano, 1963. About the Work: In the summer of 1963, Mark embarked on a European journey equipped with a 1950s Speed Graphic camera and a vision to capture photographs that “worked” in Black and White. Without any pre-conceived notions of style, he let the photogenic moments speak for themselves. These two images from Basel and Milano are among his best examples from that trip, reflecting his lifelong philosophy: see carefully with an open mind and capture the essence of the moment. About the Artist: Born and raised in Montreal, Canada, Mark’s early fascination with photography was shaped by his time in La Suisse Romande. Though his career took him into economics, his passion for photography remained constant. Self-taught, Mark’s work is deeply influenced by the art approaches he learned from René Berger’s Découverte de la peinture. Since retiring in 2016, Mark has focused on photography, favoring printed images over the convenience of digital sharing. More about Mark Segal: Join us at Fotografie Sechs from October 31 - November 21 to experience Mark’s timeless work in person! This is the post-lockdown relaunch of the book "Paint the City Black" - the book contains the only complete rendition of all the paintings in their new condition which a diverse group of over 40 artists painted in Graf Alley, June 2020, just after the murder of George Floyd, to create awareness that race issues still bedevil our society and need to be addressed. Many of the paintings no longer exist and few remain in good condition, so this is a valuable historical record of a unique event in Toronto's mural art history, At the show you may purchase this unique limited edition book, saving about $12 on postage, and also view/purchase the limited edition prints of photos from the book being exhibited for the first time.
