A small act of kindness can change someone’s entire journey. In 2023, I took my first leave from work just to attend the 5-day Shoot, Edit, Repeat training. When I stepped into the class, I was the only mobile videographer there. Everyone else already knew cameras and camera editing. Meanwhile… I was learning about 10 steps ahead of my own curriculum. I asked what felt like the silliest questions. I didn’t even know the basics yet. My boss @iambankole had given me the office Canon DSLR to practice with, and after my classmates (@alaye.gram & @yeni_adenuga ) helped me figure out the buttons, they asked: “Where’s your SD card?” SD card ke? 😭 I didn’t even know cameras needed one. So I walked up to @oluwadabest and asked if I could borrow a card and return it after class. He handed me one. When I went back to return it, he said something I’ll never forget: “Keep it.” He told me it was his first step in pushing me to buy my own camera someday. For almost two years I kept shooting mainly on my phone, sometimes renting cameras when clients needed it. But every time I saw that SD card, I reminded myself: One day, this card will go into my own camera. Fast forward to 2025 — we randomly sat next to each other at a wedding. He asked again, “When are you buying your camera?” I said, “Soon.” And he prayed for me. That same year, I finally bought my first SD card myself… and eventually my own camera. Today I just want to say thank you, Oluwadabest — for investing in someone you barely knew and for the quiet mentorship along the way. After you are done climbing, don’t forget to let down the rope. I came across this quote some years ago and it has stayed with me ever since. I took it so personally that I made a quiet promise to myself. I would not wait until I was completely done climbing before I started letting down the rope. I have always known that my life is bigger than me. At the core of my purpose is the desire to be a mirror of possibilities for other creatives to see what is possible. That conviction is why, since 2018, I have dedicated every January to sharing, teaching, and pouring into the next generation of filmmakers through @_shooteditrepeat . Every edition has come with its own success stories, but this year felt different. I introduced interest group training sessions into the curriculum and invited some of my past students to return and facilitate those sessions. A true full circle moment for me was when @oluwole_ola shared slide 16 and slide 17 with me. The past six days, though draining both physically and financially, have been the most rewarding of my year and easily the highlight of my January. Thanks to all my friends that came to take a session @danielavery__ @oye_joseph @fedworks @chisomsays @mcefilms Jordan and Ebuka Happy new month, fam. THANK YOU JESUS FOR 2025. The year 2025 happened to be the year of many “firsts”. Got my first camera, first set of equipment (as at the previous year I just had a phone), flew for the first time (and not twice), my first birthday portrait😅, got myself a new laptop, won my first award as a videographer, opened an IG channel. WOW! God is indeed faithful. I sincerely want to just pour out my heart here and to deeply appreciate God and everyone here for their constant support. My fellow colleagues who played a great role in my growth last year. I could mention names but I won’t be able to stop. Our awesome clients that trusted us to deliver, you all are the real MVPs. Lastly to my awesome family for their unending support especially when I felt less of myself, their words of encouragement and care really pushed me. God bless everyone of you! Speaking with them was very refreshing. I wish there was a way to keep in touch. 12. You don't like chocolate cake? That's only because you've not tasted mine. Ask around, my chocolate cake turns skeptics to raving fans🤭 13. The day I showed my work in front of 200+ filmmakers and creatives. A very surreal day (and to think I almost didn't register for the event). 14. blast from the past. I was obsesseddd with these. Found them recently and I love how they still tasted like I remember them. A certain country's snacks could never🫢 15. Adulting has taught me that there's no such thing as having nothing to do. If you think you do, there's some task you've forgotten lol 16. Made braids for the second time in over two years. Loved it! 17. Volunteered for a Youth summer Bible camp. The volunteers were called "Camp pals". I still think about my squad kids ever so often. 18. Received this really lovely journal as a gift. It also came with a thoughtful and timely note.
