POV: the best night of our lives ❤️🎤💍 This week, my biggest dreams came true: the surprise proposal I've always dreamed of, coming to life on stage at Katy's sold-out MSG show... and meeting (and singing with 😳🤯) my #1 artist who inspired me the most growing up. Thank you @katyperry 🫶 for making my (teenage) dream a reality... and for helping me and with the roaring 20k crowd sing the proposal lyrics to my ❤️ @arthurwwoods . This made the most special moment of our lifetimes extra special, and it was the most epic thing to experience I still can't fully put into words. This dream was 8 years in the making (see last slide ➡️), and perhaps not coincidentally as we stood in the middle of a giant 8 on stage ♾️. as we enter #aapiheritagemonth it felt very special to wear an áo dài for the first time. i felt so much power and heritage in this ensemble. being chinese-vietnamese, i asked @thainguyenatelier if i was vietnamese enough to even wear one. he said gurlll, encouraged me to, and reminded me that anyone can wear an áo dài because the goal is to spread vietnamese culture around the globe through fashion. im so glad he did, and honored he trusted me to wear his design to the 2026 #goldgala ✨ grateful to you thai for designing this custom áo dài with the most beautiful and unique modern touches. a piece that honors my culture and still feels distinctly like me 🐅 (can you tell im year of the tiger?) roar. ty @goldhouseco for the unforgettable night of celebration 💛

The last time I wrote about the queer Asian experience was in 2021 — a personal yet difficult-to-write op-ed for Men's Health titled "No Asians," about the racism and rejection I've faced from within and outside the community.
