BUSHY’s been busy running Landscape Architecture Studio 4 at UTS this semester! ‘Making Space’ explores the role of open space and public facilities in Sydney Olympic Park as it undergoes rapid transformation. Students have been engaging with social and ecological urbanisms from the global to hyperlocal scale. We’re looking forward to sharing more over the coming weeks as students prepare for final submissions.
Well done to the cohort of first year students who have been getting familiar with on-site field work!
This Spring the students have spent time at Hawthorne Canal, researching past and current histories. We were grateful to began the semester with an introduction to the waterways by Dr Shannon Foster during a Welcome to Country!
Teaching team: Faid Ahmad, Thomas Woodhead & Jacqueline Tran

Congratulations @tanyawoodlandscapearchitecture and the students of @utsarchitecture for their success at the
2024 AILA National Landscape Architecture Awards.
'Landscapes for Well-Being' won a National Award of Excellence
Run as an elective, Tanya and students from the School of Architecture designed and implemented a scheme for JJ Cahill Memorial High School in Mascot, Sydney @jjcmhs_official
NATIONAL CITATION - This project is exceptional for its community contribution and community involvement. It demonstrates an energetic, thoughtful and generous sharing of time, expertise and authorship across the design team and collaborators that has ensured that both the process and outcomes have had positive impacts that far exceed the project’s apparent scale. Critically, the project both connects people to landscape for the betterment of their well-being, and also successfully establishes connections across community and education sectors for ongoing social, environmental and educational benefits.
Thanks to the project's horticultural partner @indigigrow@aila_national@aila_nsw@utsdab

Our graduates have impact, at home and abroad...
Congratulations to Harrison Lillis, UTS BLarch(Hons), a project landscape architect at @jmd.design who has just returned from the opening of the Australian Garden of Peace: Garden of Dreams in Amiens at the foot of the ramparts that were the last place of allied resistance during WW2.
Working alongside founding director Anton James, in collaboration with Kevin Michaels and Pascale Dalix of @chartierdalix Harrison contributed to the design
of the Garden of Dreams, a project imagined as "a last thought, a journey of the mind, a moment when the confusion of a dream with reality mingles. It is the projection of an elsewhere in the chaos of combat that an Australian soldier might imagine. A landscape dreamt of by those who will never see their homeland again, as a sacrifice for peace."
