"Collaboration feels especially important right now because audiences don’t experience culture in isolation. There’s a real opportunity in Albany to think more collectively—how we can support one another, share audiences, and create a stronger cultural presence together." Executive Director Kayla Carlsen was interviewed by Corey Aldrich for the Upstate Alliance for the Creative Economy (ACE!) newsletter. ACE! works to amplify the stories of the creative economy, foster collaboration across institutions, and connect resources to strengthen the sector. ACE! @upstatecreative will be on the ground again this year to RALLY FOR THE ARTS! Please join us as we see an attack on Arts and Culture funding sources. We MUST maintain a strong representation in NYS to offset current trends nationally. One way to do that is to be present and show that this matters. NYS must stand up for the First Amendment, for art, and for joy. If your organization receives NYS funding this means YOU! Act while we can to try and influence the NYS Legislature to ramp up funding for the NYS Council on the Arts @nyscouncilonthearts this year to $150M for increased programming distributions and an additional $50M for Capital Project grants. Your voice matters! “One voice can change a room, and if one voice can change a room, then it can change a city, and if it can change a city, it can change a state, and if it can change a state, it can change a nation, and if it can change a nation, it can change the world.” – Barack Obama @ny4ca @arts_nys @timesunion @albanybusinessreview @wmhtpubmedia @spectrumnews1albany @dgazette @metrolandnow @radio_radio_x

Artists capture history, help us imagine, heal our communities, and guide us toward action. They shape and reflect the narratives that make us who we are. But art doesn’t just spring into existence. Art takes work. And workers need protection. Take action to support artists with @creativesrebuildny . Visit ArtTakesWork.com #ArtTakesWork @upstatecreative

From Corp Banking to Creative Economy Creating a Space for Community & Commerce Last Month I was in Sand Lake for an appointment at the @slca_cpt . Looking for a coffee after I was directed to the @sandlakemerchant across the street where I was happily surprised to see a thriving creative economy outpost and collaborative business model. I took a few minutes to talk to owner Amanda Goyer about her vision and what pried her away from a successful career in the banking industry. @coreyaldrich : Senior ACE! ALBANY ARTISANS : A Philosophical Approach to Restoration Newsletter Excerpt It all began when I started seeing an unrecognized acorn logo and cool images of remodels and restoration work in amazing historic buildings. I think the Instagram algorithm recommended @albanyartisans to me due to my connection with Kelsea Adams (@unclekelsea : Currently a Project Manager for the firm), a previous @electriccitycouture alum. So...I had my eye out with some future thought of finding out who these folks were, what their story was. Then as luck would have it, I got an introduction to firm founder Christopher Hacker by Michelle Toch Dinsmore of @overitmedia with a strong recommendation that we should connect...and so we did. Each year, the @nysatargion6 tirelessly puts together a creative economy careers fair for graduating high school students and their parents to evaluate the viability of creative career jobs. ACE! was excited to join in to help add a little sizzle and recommend working professionals who could give a real perspective on what a day in the life of a specific profession would look like. And boy oh boy, did we have some good ones! From architects, interior designers, cinematographers, photographers, film makers, motion graphic designers and public arts - to art therapy, gallery curation, illustration, industrial product design and fashion design. Over 200 Students and parents alike expressed gratitude for the practical approach to understanding the demands and viability of specific professions. Each student (and parents!) got to attend a total of three breakout sessions of their choosing over the course of the evening. All this, staged and executed flawlessly by the very capable team at the @russellsagecollege Albany Campus. I met Erika Sanger of the @nysmuseums (MANY) in the halls of the @capregionartscenter where they are currently based. Her light hearted and positive energy captured me. I have been wanting to meet up to learn more about MANY and see if there was any way that ACE! could play a role in their programming. When we finally did connect recently, I was not disappointed. Erika has an outstanding experiential pedigree and runs an organization of mighty historic and cultural prowess that threads community throughout the entire State of New York. She filled us in about ongoing mission, the current status of membership, and plans for the Semiquincentennial or America 250. (The 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence) For the full article hit the MARCH 2023 NEWSLETTER link in bio or the upstatecreative.org website. @coreyaldrich : Senior ACE Contributor Images: Provided #capitalregionny #capitalregion #museums #museumlife #nysmuseums #museumlover #america250 #artsandculture #creativeeconomy
