We stand in solidarity with @directorsguild as they begin negotiations with the AMPTP. The over 19,500 members of the DGA deserve a fair contract that advances their economic and creative rights and reflects their valuable contributions to the entertainment industry.

Yesterday, 34 members of the California Congressional Delegation sent a letter to @agrobbonta thanking him for his commitment to investigating the proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by Paramount Skydance. The WGAE and @wgawest agree this anticompetitive merger must be blocked! #blockthemerger

On Wednesday our members traveled to Albany to help urge lawmakers to pass the NY FAIR News Act, which would establish protections for journalists and the public to ensure that the integrity of the news and its workforce are safeguarded against AI. The NY FAIR News Act has been endorsed by a broad coalition of unions representing workers throughout New York’s news media sector, including us, @wgaeast , @directorsguild , @sagaftra and more. From our president @susandecarava : “Now more than ever, New Yorkers need the FAIR News Act so we can all trust that the news we consume is made by and for humans.”

Yesterday, the WGAE and allies traveled to Albany to rally legislators to pass the NY FAIR News Act (S.8451/A.8962-A) — a bill with bipartisan support that establishes real protections for journalists and media professionals against the unchecked use of AI in newsrooms, and ensures public trust in the news. Joined by journalists and union leaders from @sagaftra , @nyguild , @directorsguild , @cwadistrict1 and @nysaflcio , our coalition made the case to legislators that AI in journalism must come with transparency, human oversight, and safeguards for the people who do the work. Thank you to Senator Pat Fahy (@patfahy46 ) and Assemblymember Nily Rozic (@nihlyrozic ) for sponsoring this bill, and to everyone who spoke: Assemblymember Emily Gallagher (@emilyassembly ), WGAE member Mary Harris, SAG-AFTRA Chief Labor Policy Officer and Executive Director of the New York Local Rebecca Damon, NewsGuild of New York member Jason Cohen, DGA member Scott Berger, WGAE Executive Director Sam Wheeler and WGAE AI Task Force Co-Chair Larry Cohen. There’s just a few weeks left in this legislative session and we’re working hard to get this crucial piece of legislation passed. Pass the #NYFAIRNewsAct ✊

On May Day, we honor the historical movement for labor rights, recognizing the power of worker solidarity and the continued struggle for fair and just working conditions. We’re proud to join this legacy with WGAE and other unionized audio production houses—like Pushkin Industries, Pineapple Street, Vox, NPR, Lemonada, and iHeart. Our executive leadership has said they’re “here for it” and we look forward to making it official!
