Postdocs voted by an overwhelming 99.2% to ratify our first contract! After years of organizing and 18 months of bargaining, this vote is a strong mandate to continue improving our working conditions as researchers at WCM.

Over the past month we’ve made massive movement towards @WeillCornell to reach an agreement - now it’s WCM’s turn to meet us on the most important issues for postdocs, including protections against layoffs where funding still exists, and reasonable backpay in recognition of bargaining delays.

Last night, @wcmpostdocunion member Jazib Uddin joined @zohrankmamdani , @aoc , and @berniesanders on stage in front of fellow UAW members, a crowd of more than 10,000 New Yorkers, and thousands more watching at home. Jazib is a postdoctoral researcher at Weill Cornell, where he researches how immune responses develop in our gut in order to understand how we can develop future therapies to improve patients’ quality of life. For the past two years, he and other Weill Cornell postdocs have been fighting to win protections for international workers and also to demand solutions for the affordability crisis. “We might go on strike this week for the fair contract we need and deserve,” Jazib told the crowd. “Our fight has only grown more urgent this year as the federal government threatens to slash funding for research institutions while simultaneously attacking the international members of our community.” “This is why it is so exciting to have a mayoral candidate like Zohran Mamdani. A person who we know will fight to address the affordability crisis we are now facing. A person who will defend the rights of all immigrant members of our community. And a fellow New Yorker who will stand up with us against this federal administration to protect our city.” Election Day is a week from tomorrow—help us get @zohrankmamdani and our other UAW-endorsed candidates over the finish line by making a plan to vote, volunteering to canvass or phone bank, and talking to your coworkers about the election!
