🚨May Day 2026🚨 join unions and advocacy groups from across the region, as we rally in support of students, in defense of academic jobs, and to advance a vision of higher education as a public good.
Union busting is UNHOLY!! @cfuuaw member John P. Waters joined @stjohnsaaup yesterday to talk about his father’s role in founding the union at @stjohnsu and to deliver a message of solidarity to faculty members who have seen their historic union de-recognized by Rev. Brian J. Shanley’s SHAMEFUL administration.

Here's @elisabeth.astrid of the @cfuuaw speaking on May Day at Washington Square Park about fighting NYU for a fair contract.
She talked about how NYU's admins have cordoned off chunks of the campus in NYC at the expense of students and neighbors. (It's UGLY and HOSTILE!)
And yes, they did it to suppress freedom of speech. They also made kids pre-record commencement speeches. Cowards. I went to NYU for grad film; I've emailed them to explain why I will not donate as long as they pursue these kinds of policies. You should too, if your alma mater is pushing similar trash policies!

Take two 🎬. Thank you, contract faculty with @cfuuaw , postdocs with @wcmpostdocunion , podcast producers with @wgaeast , the first unionized Barnes & Noble workers in the nation with RWDSU UFCW @local_1102 , and International Rescue Committee caseworkers and researchers with @opeiulocal153 for showing the way. We were so proud to celebrate you and your first contracts, each one a page in a new playbook for a city that works for working people.
To celebrate May Day, New York City’s Deputy Mayor Julie Su invited bargaining committees from unions who won first contracts into City Hall today. We were proud to have our members from @cfuuaw and @wcmpostdocunion recognized!
