A few frames from the Steph and Dell Curry interview for @theathletichq and @amazonfiretv This was a fun one and I’m excited about how it turned out! Shooting with the greatest shooter of all time is a dream! I’m grateful that Director @ryanbooth and @odestudios.tv trusted me to bring this setup to life. Aside from the excitement of getting to film with these legends, I’m also excited about how we tackled some of the challenges. From a filmmaking side, the setup had a few hurdles. We were given this giant ballroom at Chase Center to use, but we didn’t have the luxury of a scout — just a couple location photos to go off of. Knowing that we were going to be shooting three people against huge, bright, north-facing windows, I felt a little nervous! So I channeled my anxieties into my favorite 3D previz software, set.a.light 3D from @elixxiersoftware I went a little bananas and built an approximation of the set, including the estimated ambient light that would be coming through the windows at the precise location and time of year! From there I was able to set talent and 3 cameras — each with the correct sensor sizes, ISOs and focal lengths. This was a huge help in getting a sense of the blocking. Then I added some industry standard lights and modifiers to the virtual scene, which gave me some invaluable information about the lighting placement and output we would need to compete with the bright windows behind talent. From there I was able to have informed conversations about the grip and lighting needs with our G&E team. Of course things shifted slightly on the day, as they do, but I feel so good about the previz work I put in and how it positively influenced the outcome. Who Is Michael Jang? is now streaming on @pbs @independentlens . This is the first time the documentary’s been available to stream, and I’m proud to have shot it. I was brought onto the project by director @mistahjacobs of @strikeanywhere and jumped at the chance to collaborate with him and @michaeljangsf . Michael is a singular artist - sharp, hilarious, and always in motion. Filming with him often felt like trying to keep up with a moving target - in the best way. I was constantly on my toes, working to capture something spontaneous, layered, and cinematic. It has been an honor to contribute to the growing Jang legend. I’m excited to share some stills from the e.l.f. cosmetics piece I shot profiling the multi-talented bionic pop artist, @viktoriamodesta . She shares a powerful and inspiring story in the film, which has racked up 1.9 million views on YouTube so far! Shot over the course of two days using my Sony Venice and my Leica R primes, along with my small personal lighting kit - and me as gaffer! It was a fast and lean approach to lighting, but I really enjoyed getting to be resourceful and flexible to the needs of the production. And I’m proud of how it all turned out. Client - e.l.f. I had the pleasure of shooting the @square Calm in the Chaos campaign. This aired on TV a bunch last year, but I’m excited to have a director’s cut to share soon. We channeled the mannequin challenge as the camera floated seamlessly through a set of frozen actors. It was fun to figure out how to block, light and shoot this while keeping the illusion alive!
