I’m thrilled to announced my contribution to the subglow live series 🌀 “Here’s my two (and a bit) hour set from @fieldmaneuvers back in August, my favourite festival in the world. This was by far the most time I’ve ever spent preparing for a single set or mix—I probably went through 10-15 crates of tracks, obsessing over flow, texture and tempo. Eventually, I landed here: an expression of love for dance music at 174/140 BPM. After learning the recorder malfunctioned on the night, I quickly re-recorded it to ensure I reflected the flow of the night as closely as possible. This set represents exactly what I personally wanna hear on massive sound systems right now and is a love letter to the hours danced in that field with my best friends. From steppas and skankers through to autonomic, D&B and jungle—I’m super happy with how this one turned out 🧑‍🏫 Big ups to J:Kenzo for the countless cross-genre bangers down the years, @woozy_dub for putting me on to so much insane music I’d never find otherwise, and last (but not least) @livwutang for dealing with my manic monotropism when getting it all together 🫀 I’ve been listening to Rinse for a third of my life, so this one’s special. How do! 🫡 I had the honour of guesting on @xivro and @feena_mmm ’s excellent Highly Important show on @ehfm_live this month 💓 The mix is heavily inspired by a life-changing @__k_wata live show that I caught back in April. Real brain-reassembling shit that reinvigorated my sense of wonder in electronic music. If you were there at Nowies, you know what I’m on about 🧠 Rather than a classic rising Shepard tone-style mix, this one speeds up, slows down and resets without (I hope) compromising on flow. Even if the flow’s a little weirder than usual ⚗️ While I was DJing, the park next to my house started popping off—daytime sound system wubs wafting into my bedroom. I did what any self-respecting dweeb would do and left my phone on the sill to get a real-time field recording of it. That recording sits underneath the mix, sometimes creeping in a little louder. A wee snapshot of what I was hearing when I recorded it 🎤 Tl;dr I had a lot of fun making this and think it’s really cool. I hope you do too. Ey up! 🙋‍♀️ Today I’ve posted the first volume of Sharing Plates—a new club-focused mix series from myself 😊 For the inaugural mix, I’ve recreated my set from last October’s bangin day-to-night edition of @bleached.club at @theglovethatfits . I played downstairs from 7 til 8 PM with a loose brief of “hard and fast” 🔨 Though I’d spun on radio and in record stores a couple of times, this was the first time I’d ever played in a club. Years before I even knew what DJs actually did, I’d always fantasised about playing to a proper dance floor. This was a real bucket list moment 🪣 Stupidly, I decided not to record the set that night. At the time, it was just another thing to worry about. Since then, though, I’ve found myself returning to that night with fondness. I decided to go back through my Rekordbox history and re-record the set I played that night, mixing as close to how the show actually flowed as possible 🌊 Shouts out @karpodj , @_fetch___ and the rest of the Bleached Club crew for inviting me to play. Yo! 🙋 Just shared a recording of my opening hour for @clubcitrusofficial at @unit.58 last November 🍋 I ended up having a rough bout of food poisoning the night before, which subconsciously translated into a fairly spooky and delirious set—soundtracking a club as it gradually filled up with people 🌀 I wasn’t in the right headspace to record it (for obvious reasons 😅) so I’ve recreated it from my Rekordbox history and popped it on my SoundCloud. Woioi! 👋 It gives me great pleasure to announce that myself and fellow miscreant @nedtownsend are throwing a wee party next month 🪩 The first edition of Suplex will take over Dalston’s @suigenerisldn on Friday, March 28th, with a pair of wicked DJs who’ve turned our heads to frankly owlish degrees 🦉 First up is weirdo club explorer @stolenvelour__ , whose production work on Kindergarten, Failed Units and YCO speaks for itself. Check his excellent Boiler Room from Primavera Sound for a taste of what to expect when he hops on the ones ’n’ twos. Rhythmically bonkers bangers inbound 🥁 Next up is Foundation FM resident @vigilante_dj . A certified slinger of all things skippy and pumping, the London-based DJ flits between Jersey club, speedy g, grime and jungle with ease. Her entry to Keep Hush’s recent mix competition also caught the ears of 6-deck wizard Neffa-T, who chose her 20-minute mix as one of his favourites. On January 24th, Collective Memory is pleased to invite a slew of profound artists who will take us through their sonic identity from 10 to 4 at none other than @bossanovacivicclub . 🪲 Opening up the decks is @_______________mohamed , an artist, DJ, and producer, who seamlessly fuses unique textures and driving rhythms to create sets that leave the crowd both shaken and stirred. Subtly inspired by the rich tones of Middle Eastern music he weaves through his performances, his DJ sets are equal parts artistry and fun. 🦋 He is followed by a sweet b2b from @livwutang and @lifememeswithtom . The pair went b2b on livwutang’s NTS show, “Furniture Without Memories” and we can’t wait to hear them live in action. livwutang’s style is grounded within the unifying spatial awareness of dub and the joys of dance music’s renegade sound. Lifelong influences from her musical upbringing are channeled into her enthralling musical vision – an enchanting sonic palette deftly maneuvering between the jubilant rhythms of Central & Western Africa, the innovative momentum of Black American music, & an expansive love of timeless vocal flourishes and earworm melodies from the last 60 years of popular music. Compliments is a non-binary producer and DJ from Huddersfield, based in London. Their tunes and sets are heavily influenced by the wobblier sides of drum & bass, dubstep and bassline, with a pinch of nü-metal riffage thrown in for good measure. 🐞 Closing out the night is @_kadeyoung , a dance music producer and DJ from Baltimore, MD, championing a combined love for percussive house and Bmore club music. A fixture in the Baltimore and DC scenes, Kade lights up night club floors and warehouse spaces with a tight balance of bouncy club edits and soulful rhythms. Beyond the DMV, he has graced decks in New York, Toronto, Richmond, and Miami, and has a 2023 release on legendary South London label Night Slugs. 🐌 Free before 10, $10 10-Midnight, $15 after Midnight.
