🌀 today at 11am I’m doing an hour of radio dedicated to dance music in edinburgh on @ehfm_live ! It’s my final episode I’ve put together for @scenesinthecityehfm and it means a lot to me :-)
The city has a long, complex history with electronic music and with dancing and tbh it’s pretty impossible to sum up in an hour, plus, clubbing and club music can be a bit intimidating to approach for some folk. So I thought I’d use the 60 minutes I have today to act as an introduction, as once the project finishes I’ve got a couple more audio pieces I’ll be able to share ! Here are some things I’ve loved looking at and learning about throughout. Including old flyers for sativa and pure, venue maps, and stills from documentation of nights in clubs that no longer exist
A lot of ppl seem to be put off by electronic music, and I feel a bit like edinburghs dance music crew don’t get as much press or hype as musicians working within other genres, which is weird, as to me making music that is geared to be played specifically in a club is one of the most freeing things - it relates so much to people, connectivity, and joy. If club music isn’t ur thing that’s fair, but I ask u to give it a chance and have a listen in today!! I love all the tracks in the show, they’re all made by edinburgh artists, and I’m consistently in awe at how much is produced in edinburgh despite the lack of club spaces, rising rent prices, and constant pressure from bodies like the council
