@ccl_url is both a DJ’s DJ and a music nerd’s DJ. The Berlin-based artist, who cut their teeth in Bristol and Seattle, is revered in certain corners of clubland, particularly in experimental-leaning circles and the queer scenes they call home. Their borderless sound is rooted in the pulse of dub and the thrum of UK dance music, though their sets and mind-blowing online mixes focus more on texture and mood than genre or BPM. In their hands, most music has a way of sounding like something else entirely.
“I’m often chasing an otherworldly feeling,” they said. “But also one that is deeply rooted in the human experience.”
In our latest Art of DJing interview, CCL talks openly about how they became a DJ, their unique musical philosophy and the sensual magic of the “sexy oven.”

Howdy, proud, and incredibly anxious to release my first physical mixtape today on T4TLUVNRG, a project I’ve been working on slowly for years.
The proceeds after costs from this release will go to the fundraiser “SUPPORT PALESTINIAN SOLIDARITY IN EUROPE!”.

A Night in the Skull Discotheque is a journey through proto-dubstep sounds from as early as the late 1970s through the year 2000, a sonic sibling and follow-up to Ode to Queer Steppas. After noticing uncanny references in tracks decades before FWD, (some of which) were from the most unexpected places, I started to keep a folder of these “proto”, slowly adding to it over the years. They began to tell a story more vivid and eerie than I could have imagined. Beyond just archiving, I wanted it to showcase what an interesting narrative and fantastical place these tracks illustrate, and the rich history of possible red threads. :)
……
Inspired by @erisdrew ’s use of “old records to create new styles out of fragments”, CCL approached this recording with a parallel frame of mind. Tracks included in the mix are deconstructed from their whole, and constituent parts are intertwined, sampled, and dubbed out while being further stretched beyond their physical limits. CCL mixed many tracks at the ‘wrong speed’, pitched beyond their original recognizable tone; others are recontextualized through imaginative layering.
A Night in the Skull Discotheque leads us to a fantastical place of timeless surreality – a majestic haunted dancehall soundtracked by a giddy rush of steppers and dubbed-out delights. Subs rattle through syncopated percs, and moody synths glisten in macabre glory. Fantastical dancers wriggle in wispy eternity, liberated from their corporeal forms in all their greatest spiritual wonder. Both extravagant and dusky, A Night in the Skull Discoteque is a world of seductive in-betweens, a place caught between the moodiest depths and the highest exuberance – A love letter to one of the most impactful formative sounds of the last decades.

While many DJs approach genre and scope adventurously, few are as expansive and unique as CCL.
At Lost, CCL will present a special performance inspired by their acclaimed radio show Liquidtime, a fluid journey in the liquefaction of rhythmic and melodic matter.
The show will unfold inside the Labirynt’s stunning bamboo setting, an immersive space perfectly suited to CCL’s shape-shifting sonic world.
All tickets in bio.
Do not miss it.
Few DJs have shaped contemporary club culture’s trajectory quite like @ccl_url , a force of nature whose meteoric rise has redefined what’s possible behind the decks. Their debut EP ‘Plot Twist’ on !K7 emerged as one of 2024’s most spellbinding releases, masterfully weaving murder mystery ASMR narratives and electric guitar riffs through crystalline steppers and haunted UKG.
Through their Berlin-based @sub.glow label and club night, CCL has carved out a singular space where bass weight meets psychedelic sensibility, where four-to-the-floor conventions dissolve into limitless possibilities. Their approach rejects the obvious, instead of chasing trends or cranking up BPMs, they craft intricate sonic worlds that demand deeper engagement.
Through masterful technical execution and an almost mystical ability to “read the room”, CCL transforms dancefloors into temporary autonomous zones where genre boundaries blur and new connections spark in the darkness. A DJ’s DJ who never loses sight of the fundamentals while pushing relentlessly forward into uncharted territory.
When dreams turn real ✨ CCL & Objekt are playing Ankali this Friday. The genre-liquifying duo will play our #allnighter, pulling us through wormholes with near-telepathic synergy. Dreams truly are the original thrill.

Ahead of subglow at Open Ground this Saturday April 11, heres 9 records that exemplify the spirit of subglow – a sound that I feel is multidimensional, experimental, psychedelic and sensual as it is rooted in the foundations of dub and sub-heavy pressure.
Inside are subglow classics 👀 attendees will recognise, and new favourites Im excited to spin.

From CCL about subglow and to expect 👀
subglow functions as an organism that flourishes in the spirit of ritual and collective intention, rooted in a deep love for soundsystem culture in all its forms – all music that makes subs glow.
subglow thrives….
when subs are worshipped, central, glowing
when femmes, queer people and nerds who love to get freaky dance in the front
where the dance is sacred while smiles are exchanged
where playfulness, psychedelia and experimentation run freely
where storytelling, intention, respect and reverie for this culture are held dear
Expect dub, dubstep, jungle, live instrumentation, jazz, techno, house…and more.
Expect a night of juxtapositions – darkness and lightness, futurism and deep acknowledgement of foundations, eclecticism and ceremony. Expectations are challenged, and spirits thrive.
“Open Ground offers a unique opportunity for subglow to thrive on what many have called the most beautiful sound system in the world, and offer a new form of intention via travel to Wuppertal. This collaboration means an exchange, and beckoning of a new spirit that is both ephemeral and enduring long after the dance is concluded– do not miss it.”
