The workshop consists of a combination of movement meditation & introduction to vocal practices, such as growling and distortion of the voice. Danilo Andrés will provide dynamic breathing exercises to support the voice work, and on a creative level they will stimulate the participants to create their own mantras and vocal incantations, which aim to animate the dancing body.
BIO

Butoh Mutations in Berlin: New Moon ~ Dark Dance, 16 May 2026 at Backsteinboot
Butoh Mutations is an art and dance research project initiated by Dominique Savitri Bonarjee,
Savitri (chi/mer) is a dance, sound and visual artist, and a member of the Backsteinboot Collective. Chi teaches internationally and is the author of the book, Butoh as Heard by a Dancer (Routledge, 2024), based on mer learning with seminal Butoh artists during a 5 year residency in Japan. Butoh Mutations is an approach to movement and dance that seeks to deepen the contemporary resonance of postwar Japanese Butoh through nondual movement philosophies. Butoh is the “dance of darkness.”
Born in Japan, in the aftermath of nuclear trauma, Butoh resists conventional beauty and instead reveals the raw, hidden layers of the body, by drawing on nonconscious imagery and intuition. It is a primarily a practice of metamorphosis which responds to elemental, ancestral, or nonhuman guidance.
On 16 May, the first Butoh Mutations workshop will take place in Berlin. Come out to the island, on the edge of the city, to immerse yourself in a day of ecstatic darkness, an ode to the new moon.
In this one-day lakeside retreat, Savitri invites you into a spring exploration shaped by ongoing research in India’s ancient water rituals, especially the Ganga Aarti, a fire offering to the mother river in Varanasi. With charged hands, and sensuous attention, we will summon the unknown that emerges with the new moon.
The day culminates in a 1.5 hour Ecstatic Dark Dance Jam—a collective descent into shadow and sensation, through a sound journey of drone and atonal music.
No prior experience needed. Open to all bodies.
Time: 12 – 19.00
Fee: € 80 / Students: € 60
Come as you are. Leave mutated.

So happy to finally share this announcement with you all! HyperrTerra’s 3rd Edition will see Midgar teaming up with London and FOLD based collective @transmissions____ for another memorable summer day/night at Backsteinboot.
This time we start at 1pm, but doors will open at least 30 minutes earlier. We love to welcome our friends slowly and let them take the best spots before the first set starts. Ambient will be followed by dub, downtempo and sound experimentations, and obviously some groovy shit to dance to, on cute and comfy carpets in the garden.
A new addition for this year is the Bodily Workshop by @fyirobyn , taking place upstairs during the early afternoon. The workshop has its own separate ticket listed together with the event’s one (check our linktree and RA). In the evening at 10pm we move inside to continue partying until the morning. There will be some b2b, and a bit of swimming (we’re on a island after all) please be prepared and bring goggles and a swimsuit.
If you attended the last HyperrTerra, you probably remember the insane soundsystem was an important part of the experience. That is why are entrusting again the sound to @restless.audio , a friend and incredible engineer who will bring a proper setup to Backsteinboot!!
ALSO..We might keep the garden active in some way during the night, we will update this space when we have more concrete details. Stay tuned.
There’s a bunch of early bird available! We recommend to secure your spot! Buying your ticket in advance will also allow us to handle better all the costs for artists fees and transportations. Thank you !!

In the early 90s, a company of young artists discovered the possibilities of video. Unlike film, which was expensive and required complicated developing, video could be viewed immediately: it had never been possible before in the history of mankind to get their media copy so quickly.
They filmed everything: their artistic endeavours, their hangouts, just life. Sometimes they became the heroes of TV reports, so that their lives and destinies are intertwined in the media space with what is happening in the country and the world, creating an endless meta-film. This is the story of the Great Digital Revolution of the 90s that changed our heroes and the world forever.

This week, the exhibition FUGUE by XL Projects Berlin opened at @backsteinboot
The artists presented works exploring movement, dreams, perception, and the internal structure of form. At the core of the project is a video work by the group Provmyza, which sets the rhythm for the entire exhibition.
The exhibition also features:
@mishmash.group (Misha Leykin, Masha Sumnina),
the @zipgroup (Stepan and Vasily Subbotin, Evgeny Rimkevich),
as well as artist AM and Petr Voznesensky @pet0s
Different artistic “voices” come together as a single fugue — polyphonic, intense, and resonating within the space of Backsteinboot.
Curator @selina.elena
We will soon share more detailed insights into the works presented in the exhibition.
FUGUE
9.02.2026- 15.02.2026
opening 9.02.2026 at 17.00 - 22.00
address: Eiswerderstraße 18/Gebäude 129, 13585 Berlin, 3 floor @backsteinboot
FUGUE is an exhibition about running and movement, that conceals an inner structure. Drawing on an expanded understanding of the musical fugue as a form of polyphony and the interplay of voices, the project brings together different artistic statements into a single field of tension.
In the main hall, the video work Fugue by the Provmyza group is presented — an almost physical experience where the aesthetic collides with the bodily, and movement turns into pressure and a loss of balance.
The projects by MishMash and the ZIP group are shown in the format of open studios. Their “fugues” unfold as parallel lines: reflecting on the past growing into the present, on imbalance, suppression, and the disruption of familiar boundaries. Different rhythms, forms, and tempos, yet a shared sense of movement and an inner connection between the works.
