Reminisce with Atrice as they channel bass‑weight, sound‑design‑driven energy along the Rio Tajo’s edge during last year’s Refractor gathering.
They performed this live set for the first time on Sunday, the final day of the festival - billed after EMA and before Hysteria Temple Foundation. It was the first moment they shared this new work with an audience.
Although it wasn’t yet midsummer, the weekend brought heat to Toledo, settling over the landscape with a dry, insistent weight. With no time for a proper soundcheck and barely even a line check, they set up their gear while EMA was still playing, connecting everything piece by piece in the heat and hoping it would hold.
The riverbank played host to both Toledo’s record‑high temperatures and a wave of brand‑new Atrice material. This recording captures that moment: a set built largely from new ideas, performed under conditions that were challenging yet memorable. Across this hour‑and‑a‑half session, the duo weave through tempos and atmospheres as deftly as they thread the musical references that inform them.

“This is a recording from my three-hour opening set at Nowadays Nonstop last fall. I played from 10pm to 1am, a slot I’ve come to cherish for the freedom it offers. When the floor isn’t packed out and chuggin’ yet, there’s room to weave together sonic worlds that might otherwise never meet during peak time.
It was one of the most fun nights I’ve had behind the decks in recent memory. I surfed the currents between trip hop, dub techno, latin house, hand perc freakers, bass, ambient…all sounds near and dear to me, while experiencing that special arc of an opening set…its beginning and its end as distinct chapters of the same story.
There’s something about those early club moments…the Nowadays doors freshly opened, the space still empty. A foggy, floating dance floor where the early-birds bob like seagulls at the mouth of a grotto. Then, gradually, the shift….pulling slowly from downtempo into choppier, more frenetic waters. By 1am, the waters are at a perfect roiling boil, the energy built up enough to hand off to the peak-time captain of the night, Coffintexts. Pure bliss!

“This set was recorded live on Saturday, July 19th, 2025 at 4 PM at Soundit Festival Barcelona.
The narrative arc for this set was pieced around my discovery of a Huntleys + Palmers compilation, opening with the second track of the compilation, and concluding with the release’s last track.
Set in the shadier part of a lush park on a July afternoon in @sounditbcn Festival, I aimed to shape a gradual rise in intensity over the course of two hours, allowing the energy to build with the heat of the day, weaving musical past and present, minding the weighty history of soundsystem culture on a stage set up by @the.sound.society .”

- this track sparked my love of femme vocals in dubstep tracks <3 i usually play it when a moment comes to go deeper but not chiller — i love how the it immensely weighty and wobbly low-end contrast with yolanda’s compelling vocals and lyricism.
Quest - Eden
- i’m a sucker for dubstep with cinematic, sweeping pads and jazzy elements, and i think this is the perfect encapsulation of all those things; it feels almost delicate in its sophistication.
Klute - Part Of Me (Calibre Remix)
- i’ve always felt quite hesitant to play d&b and faster tempos, but this past year i’ve been challenging myself to venture into the halftime to 174 axis more frequently, and i’ve found that i mostly gravitate toward shimmering, pad-laden liquidy stuff … pretty much like my taste in all other genres! this is my fave of calibre’s shelflife series.
Smith & Mighty - Evolve
- Bass Is Maternal is one of my favorite albums of all time and this track in particular is one of my go-to closers — one of those songs that makes me feel glad i’m alive to hear music. it’s hard to resist shedding a tear by the time this one fades out 🩵

The incredible jaw-dropping @kontronatura ’s set rocked the subglow anniversary to its core— those who were there couldn’t stop thinking about it for months, and those who weren’t can finally listen back.
From Achille “Subglow wrapped up a four-month tour for me, so I brought the most concentrated essence of what I’d been collecting on my journey before heading back home. A synthesis of hybrid rhythms, dubby waves, mutant baile funk, tribal bass and crisp textures. I started at 140 BPM moving through thick bass and sharp percussion mutating the low-end pressure into baile funk with a dubstep grit — hyper-charged bass pressed directly into the chest — building tension through crescendos and releasing it in moments of oniric flotation. It was eclipse night, the energy in the room felt so powerful! like the whole dancefloor locked into the same spell through the night — a ritual in low frequencies inside the OHM battery box.”

subglow/Live 8: NM DJ Closing Set @ subglow’s anniversary 🕯️
We’re so thrilled to publish this incredible recording of one of the most beautiful and healing memories on the subglow dancefloor — NM DJ’s set artfully descended from 160bpm into a soulful mid tempo deepness that feels increasingly rare on Berlin dancefloors — inciting warmth, heavenly groove, and many tears along the way.
From NM DJ “The DJs Ceci has booked often leave me awestruck, especially when I hear a paradigm of mixing that feels more like sculpting: sound is made almost visibly malleable, without clear borders of where one track ends and another begins, and reality in that nightclub is warped, refolded, churned. I’m more basic I guess – I’m just a girl who loves her deep cuts and her vocals. And what defines “deep”? To me it’s a track’s capacity to hold both abstraction (spatial, textural, tonal) and soul, regardless of genre. If a door to the divine could be hinged in it, then it’s deep. At the end of a party, if the floor was hot, my mind is already so bent and the body so broken, that’s all I want. Or, as D’Bora Rivers sings in the canonical “Ncameu” that ends the set, “something strong and sweet, like honey in my drink…”
