Christoph passed away on Monday, March 2 after a period of health complications following his stroke in 2018.
In his final hours he was surrounded by close friends.
Having worked at Dubplates & Mastering since the mid-1990s and later running the studio himself, Christoph was one of the defining mastering and cutting engineers of Berlin’s electronic music scene.
With his precise ear and his deep understanding of how music translates to vinyl records and large sound systems, Christoph helped to shape the sound of countless releases across genres. His work as a mastering engineer and lacquer cutting specialist appears on an extraordinary number of records and forms part of the sonic history of many influential artists and labels.
He was also a great DJ with a particularly deep love for Reggae, Dub, Jungle, Drum & Bass and soundsystem culture. Music and sound in general was a life long passion for him.
To us he was a source of inspiration, a teacher and a friend.
We will miss him very much.
We found a new home! Our new location is still in Berlin Kreuzberg, just a few streets from our old studio. The last weeks have been pretty intense, but everyone is happy to be here and the mastering and cutting work is already fully back on track again.
