Mark sent me a large file of Mp3s of ideas during lockdown, There were so many great ones I knew straight away that i had to drop what i was doing. It felt very much that i had not been anywhere like this before both as soon as i put my headphones on and started trying to find the vocals, words and sounds, but also, as it progressed, watching Jonathan respond so freely and spontaneously with all his video and artwork ideas. It was mental, and i feel lucky to have been involved. Far Out Recordings came correct for Record Store Day. Three worth hunting down. Nicola Conte, one of the labels most loyal and prolific artists, with a limited 7” with two new tracks drawing from early 70s Brazilian jazz and modal hard bossa. Troubleman - Time Out Of Mind is all round maverick Mark Pritchard’s beloved 2004 Far Out record back in an expanded edition with Strike Hard finally on the album for the first time. And Agustín Pereyra Lucena’s Ese Dia Va A Llegar (1975) is back under its original Argentine title for the first time in Europe. See art in a new light with Jonny Niesche and Mark Pritchard’s immersive installation. They present Sound and Vision (Reflect what you are, in case you don’t know) (2025) as part of Installations at Sydney Contemporary. Niesche’s reflective and translucent surfaces, crafted from sheer fabrics, metals, and mirrored substrates, create visual fields that shift with the viewer’s movement and the surrounding architecture. The installation uses low-frequency sound and vibration to subtly activate the body and space, creating a synesthetic encounter. Drawing on colour field painting, psychedelia, and spiritual abstraction, the work invites a contemplative, meditative engagement with the sensory present. Installations showcases major works beyond the gallery booth, engaging with the unique architecture of Carriageworks. Curated by José Da Silva, this piece is presented with 1301SW | STARKWHITE.
