Aama Studio presents Threads of Legacy Film Salon, taking place at @lacma this weekend. 🎞️ Drawing from @tavaresstrachan ’s immersive exhibition The Day Tomorrow Began, we welcome you to the Aama Studio: Threads of Legacy Film Salon on March 21. This program features a tour of Strachan’s exhibition, short films selected by Aama Studio, and discussions exploring Black liberation, arcs of migration, and evolving identities, linking ancestral memory to possibilities of today and tomorrow. The film salon will include a private gallery tour by Curator of Contemporary Art Diana Nawi, short film screenings, and discussion space that centers on migration, evolving identities, and the ways ancestral memory continues to shape the present and the possibilities ahead. Aama Studio presents our first curated Threads of Legacy Film Salon co-presented at @lacma . 🤲🏿📽️ Rooted in our belief that storytelling is an archive practice, the salon gathers film, fiber, and memory as living vessels of inheritance. Inspired by explorations of hidden histories and speculative futures, we are shaping a space personal memory forms the woven ground for cinema, and where intergenerational story can move between what has been carried and what is still becoming. We welcome short film submissions that engage themes of migration, Black liberation, ancestral memory, and identities unfolding between past and possibility. We’re looking for works that understand story as both record and ritual, and that align with our ongoing commitment to holding space for lived experience, folklore, and cultural continuity. Films should be under 30 minutes. Submissions close in two weeks. Detailed submission instructions and the submission link can be found in our bio. SVAFF is a sublime festival that centers African storytelling! The thoughtfulness and intention behind this festival is unlike anything I have experienced. Uncle Chike we are in awe of your vision. SVAFF calls itself a “small” festival. But I prefer the words “Intimate” and “Intentional”. It’s the difference between going to a loud party where it’s harder to connect versus going to friends housewarming where you have conversations with depth and meet life long friends and new collaborators. Aama Studio: Threads of Legacy Screening at @loreleimertpark 🕯️🎞️ As part of Aama Studio, a collection of in-person moments with our community, we hosted a screening of our short film House of Aama: Threads of Legacy, by filmmaker @jamalademola with our friends at @loreleimertpark . This moment served as a celebration of storytelling, culture, and homecoming as we communed in the presence of art, literature, and remembrance. After the screening, we hosted a panel with Multidisciplinary Artist @autumnbreon , Filmmaker @jamalademola , and our Co-Founders @shabakaaa and @rebeccalouise1967 , moderated by the amazing @mayascade . Guests were able to flip through a selection of books curated by House of Aama & LORE, view our ancestral altar, paying homage to the legacies of Akua & Rebecca’s ancestors, went home with custom bookmarks, and grabbed complimentary drinks courtesy of our sponsors @drinkdesoi and @juneshineco .
