This #GivingTuesday, I’m proud to be fundraising for @teachprogram , which fights for a future in which abortion is fully integrated into #FamilyMedicine—not siloed, stigmatized, or treated as an exception—in CA and nationwide. But my interest in abortion isn’t just professional: it’s deeply personal. It took it took me three decades to access a diagnosis for my genetic condition, #EhlersDanlosSyndrome (EDS). By that point, I was very sick with unmediated chronic pain, chronic fatigue, chronic nausea, chronic dizziness . . . chronic everything, it seemed. Flooded with new info about the condition’s lifelong complications (including pregnancy risks), I was trying to understand what this diagnosis meant for my body, my future, and my capacity to parent. As much as I wanted to be a mom, I knew that at least for that period, if I became pregnant, choosing abortion would be the most loving, responsible, and self-honoring decision I could make, both for myself and for any potential child. Today, after several years of extensive specialty care and after some research advancements, I’m less afraid of what pregnancy will mean for me. I hope to one day become pregnant and work closely with my medical team, including my family medicine physician, to mitigate pregnancy risks. But there’s still a real possibility that I may need to end a pregnancy for my health and safety. Abortion access remains essential to my health, safety, bodily autonomy, and boundaries—yesterday, today, and in whatever future lies ahead. Everyone capable of pregnancy deserves abortion access—without barriers, stigma, or political interference. That’s why I’m proud to serve on the Board of TEACH. Their impact this year alone has been enormous: passing legislation to protect #mifepristone access in CA, doubling our national impact by growing provider training programs, supporting clinics integrating abortion care, and training the next generation of reproductive health clinicians. Amid so many attacks on abortion access, TEACH needs us more than ever. I’m committed to raising at least $500 by Dec 31. Will you join me? Donate here: /provideTEACHresist/madelinemorcelle

šŸ“£šŸ’„šŸ“£ TODAY is Repro Day of Action! šŸ“£šŸ’„šŸ“£ We need your collective voice and power to safeguard reproductive equity. Without immediate action from state leaders, California’s family planning and abortion access safety net will be decimated, with patients unable to access vital health services and health centers forced to lay off essential health workers. Take three simple steps to protect access to sexual and reproductive health care in California: 1ļøāƒ£ Call Pro Tem McGuire (916-651-4002) + Speaker Rivas (916-319-2029) and urge them to protect family planning and abortion access! 2ļøāƒ£ Send a message to the Governor + state leaders urging them to protect access to health care. Link in bio. 3ļøāƒ£ Spread the word on social with your community—share this post widely! šŸ”—Call script and email template at link in bio. 🧿Jummah Mubarak🧿 T-Shirt Link in bio - Pre order now šŸ§ššŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø I don’t feel stigma or shame talking about my abortion as I am #probodilyautonomy and I feel firm, grounded and rooted. Especially since it was my abortion that brought me back to Islam🪬 🧿 My decolonization journey didn’t start until I was 25. That was when my classmate and roomie at UMich, @dearshenaaz said, ā€œAll the aunties do itā€.šŸ§ššŸ¾ā€ā™‚ļøAs someone who practices #somaticabolitionism , I now understand how important that was for me to hear - the subconscious stigma that had been stored in my body for several years was released šŸŖ„šŸ§žā€ā™€ļøMy abortion story as related to #Islam is in the podcast in slide 13 if you would like to hear ( @rachna = best storytelling coach šŸ«¶šŸ½). 🧿 I put up the piece from my time in Afghanistan (slide 12) due to how the Afghan women I met had to travel to India for their repro care since the US military occupation meant they had no healthcare🄓 🧿 The Far-Right and White Liberal Supremacists, who control funding under the 501(c)3 nonprofit system are in collusion to prevent #ReproductiveJustice for affected people in the US because war and genocide are their #populationcontrol tactics. 🧿 If a #reprojustice org cannot discuss how Palestine is integral to RJ, look to see who funds that org and/or who is on the Board šŸ‘ļø. I prepared a lil’ cheat sheet slide deck for you all to equip yourself on reproductive politics šŸ™šŸ½ I hope it’s useful 😘 🧿 Four abortion funds are receiving backlash, losing money, and being threatened into silence for standing firm on their advocacy for Palestine. I am posting today in my ā€œFund Abortion, Not Warā€ shirt to raise money for these critical abortion funds. #ReproductiveJusticeforAll is a campaign to uplift these abortion funds through financial, public, and communal support. Fund abortion because the war on bodies extends across borders and the struggle for bodily autonomy is intertwined.Ā Learn more and donate to the abortion funds at fundabortionnotwar.org.Ā  Get a shirtšŸ‘š : @shoutyourabortion #genderaffirmingcare #FundAbortionNotWar #MifeNotMissiles #PalestineisRJ #transliberationnotusinvasion #ecowomanism

Moments from 2024 worth revisiting: I found some time to use my voice for Palestinian liberation, access to abortion training and divestment from the prison industrial complex.
