The colour palette at Jacket began with the original 1950's hex mosaic tiles on the footpath outside. Mustard and deep ochre reds became the base tones that shaped a warm, comforting atmosphere. Once the general vibe was established, we started experimenting with sharp pops of primary colour — moments of surprise and delight. Like an offbeat cymbal splash or a trumpet shriek. Big thanks to our longtime collaborator and modern-day alchemist Allan Grimes @grimesandsons for the custom stain work across the timber and cork. You always manage to bring the music to our work. Details were layered throughout the space like elements of a song. Tightly edited together, feeding off each other — solo here, verse there, bass and rhythm working as one.... all elements responding to one another like players in a band. Thanks Sam @propercarpentry and Az @stellingcarpentry for executing everything we dreamt up with such care and precision. We have so much respect for your craft. Proper seating doesn’t happen by accident. Every line, radius and junction mulled over so the space feels as good as it looks. One Proper Heck of a collab with @stellingcarpentry . Built for late nights, bad decisions and one more round, please. Client: @jacket.bar Design: @studioheck_ Images: @duncographic Joinery: @stellingcarpentry @propercarpentry

The brief arrived as a playlist from our jazz musician client — music was his way of describing the atmosphere he wanted to create. We translated it into a space composed like a score: piano keys stretched across the floors, the timbre of old instruments embedded in the walls, syncopation in the detailing, and staccato moments that cut in and out. Moody, warm and intimate, with small moments of surprise — like hearing your favourite song for the first time all over again. Jacket Bar’s official opening party is this Friday night. See you there. We've been looking forward to publicly thanking Emma from @_sundance_studio_ for the amazing woven commission featured in our Park Drive project. We love the juxtaposition of soft materiality and rigorous geometry, like a constructivist collage in woven, hand dyed fabric. Emma's work speaks to the time honoured traditions of quilting and weaving which are so wonderfully captured by her beautiful compositions. Lighting in this scene is courtesy of @lanalaunay USO floor lamp and @workstead 's gable sconce. Special thanks also to @ccss_melbourne @drapemasterandblinds @solazzopaintdeco @stone_elegance @ingoodcompany__ Love HECK Photography- @jjjjade Joinery - @propercarpentry Styling- @studioheck_

Viola Calacatta has always been a favourite of ours—a timeless stone used throughout history when only a bold statement will suffice. We left room in a mostly neutral palette for the sculptural stone masonry and rich merlot veining to sing. It is the heart of the project to which all other elements respond. The terraced landscape in our Parkville project negotiates the level change to the laneway while creating a series of intimate zones for entertaining, retreat and pause. Carefully framed views from within introduce depth and layering, allowing the modest outdoor area to feel generous and immersive. Photography - @jjjjade Joinery and landscaping - @propercarpentry

Tucked within a compact Parkville terrace, this residential interior reworks a constrained kitchen, living area and underutilised outdoor car space into a calm and connected sequence of spaces. Designed for a busy young family, the brief called for a stronger relationship between inside and out, alongside a kitchen and living zone capable of supporting everyday life while easily accommodating friends and family. These booths are made for lingering. Design, finely tuned for quiet conversation and unhurried evenings. A place to enjoy amateur philosophy, benign gossip and seriously good martinis. Love Heck Project @pendant.publicbar Images @jjjjade Carpentry @propercarpentry @stellingcarpentry

Where the magic happens! Take a seat at the bar next time you’re in (if you can’t get a booth😏) Stained Tassie Oak sets the tone throughout Pendant, the Solid oak top and salvaged French oak timber roses grace the facade giving Pendant its timeless appearance. Best new bar in Australia, literally! Huge congrats to Luke and Belinda and the @pendant.publicbar team for taking away this year’s Australian Bartenders Bar award. Creating this space alongside Jack & Em @studioheck_ and my day 1 Az @stellingcarpentry was a real treat, it just flows when you’re all in the same head space. Doesn’t even feel like work!
