This was a special one.  A foray into mediaeval-esque candelabras. Produced using a process of oxide tinting byproduct from @keepcup product quality control.  @ryanfernandesdesign and Nic, Anaïs and team at @madebymorgan entrusted all the designers in @tactile_dialogues to be bold with their material statements. The quietly intimate dinner setting by @manze_melbourne set a beautiful aura to release these pieces into @ngvmelbourne #MelbourneDesignWeek  I've been blown away by the excited responses to these works. Kudos to all involved for such a great time over the last few days and for coming to say hello.  Artists: Jessie French - Other Matter  Sarah Nedovic (sarah_nedovic) Jordan Fleming (@_jordanfleming ) Ned Vernon, V Brokkr (@v.brokkr ) Jon Goulder (@jongoulder ) Ryan L. A Sense of Occasion invites designers to reflect onthe moments in their own lives that have calledfor celebration. The milestones, the quiet wins, the unexpected joys. Each designer is encouraged to channel a personal sense of occasion into their work, approaching the task with curiosity and play. This exhibition is an opportunity to design for sheer enjoyment – to experiment with unfamiliar materials or to express masterful skill with a known one. It’s a reminder that design doesn’t always need to solve a problem; sometimes it can simply raise a smile – or a glass. @wellcomanz @studio_round @champagnepolroger 🥂 @adamcornishdesign @adrianahannaoffice @after___mood @brahmanperera @charliewhitewhite @corbet.objet @deannorton @fomu @giels_world @ham_don @jay_jermyn @_jordanfleming @marlo__lyda @studioceravolo @space_man.studio @steelotto_official @studiodokolaglass @studiotops @thomasmaxamstudio @veardesign @matthewmcquiggan 📷

Waldglas draws from the murky green world of medieval forest glass, where colour was born from wood ash, iron-rich sand and the uncertainties of the furnace. Reimagined as a champagne bucket, the work carries celebration into older rituals of trust, touch and shared consumption. Its rippled surface recalls early ornament, but also offers grip to the hand: a small functional echo of feasts where fingers were slick with food and drink. The gesture of cheers lingers here too, with its folklore of spilled wine between vessels, a quiet proof against poison. In Waldglas, conviviality becomes both ceremony and suspicion. A Sense of Occasion, the champagne bucket becomes more than an object; it becomes a vessel for shared human moments, holding not just ice, but a moment to celebrate and gather. Catch our recently landed #ArtistInResidence in #TheDesignFiles 🔥🔥 "Glassblower Billy Crellin of @studiodokolaglass creates pieces that paradoxically appear both carved from the ancient world, and borrowed from the future. This balance of the past and future is the basis of his glassblowing practice and workshop, Studio Dokola, established after many years of international work, apprenticeships, and study. Billy’s latest work explores glass as a material once used to imitate precious stones, and how its value and meaning has shifted over time." Having settled in to the Glassworks this week, Billy will be working at Glassworks throughout April. "'A key part of the residency involves working with rejected KeepCup glass, addressing the technical challenges of recycling it for future use in Studio Dokola’s public classes,’ he says." (And how gorgeous are these studio shots. 👆Add to pinboard!) 📖READ the profile @thedesignfiles | Meet The Melbourne Glass Artist Creating Must-Have Pieces ⭐ARTIST TALK with Billy Crellin Thu 23 Apr at 4.45 pm 🔗RSVP via the ‘EVENTS’ link in our bio #CanberraGlassworks 2026 Artistic Program is supported by @artsact_ and @creative.australia 👏👏👏 📸 Billy Crellin at his studio.
