On Monday Jan 19th, the Alliance of BC Students and student unions from across the province showed up to Minister of Post-Secondary Education Jessie Sunner's office to slam the government's performative review of the public post-secondary education system. Four months is not enough time. The 2% limit on tuition increases must stay in place. And cuts and mergers are not the solution to decades of government underfunding. BC students are demanding the government reverse course and commit to more public funding, not cuts or tuition increases for already struggling students. For our statement and media coverage about the press conference, click the link in our bio. 📸: @capilano.courier #bcstudents #bcpse #bcpoli #bced #bcgov #postsecondary

The Alliance of BC Students welcomes the announcement that the Ministry of Finance has initiated an investigation into the Kwantlen Student Association (KSA) under a special provision of the Societies Act. ”All BC students deserve transparency and accountability from their student unions,” said Kevin Root, Chairperson of the ABCS. “Any serious allegations of misconduct or misuse of student funds raise significant questions, and students deserve answers.” BC student societies are regulated by the Societies Act and are accountable to their members and the public through the Act. BC students expect their student societies to demonstrate high standards of ethical conduct, fiscal responsibility, good governance, transparency, and accountability. Upholding these high standards is the norm, and is essential to maintaining the trust that students place in their elected representatives.

🚨 THE 2% CAP IS ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK 🚨 BC is reviewing post-secondary education, and the tuition fee limit for domestic students is at risk. If we don’t speak out now, we risk being priced out of our own education. We are stronger when we stand together. Here is how YOU can take action this week to protect affordable education: 1️⃣ ATTEND THE RALLY 📍 Vancouver Public Library (W Georgia & Homer) 🗓️ Saturday, Jan 31 | 11:30am–1:30pm Join @students_bc , @thebcfs , and hundreds of students from across the province to make our voices heard. 2️⃣ JOIN THE SIGN-MAKING PARTY 📍 CSU Maple Lounge 🗓️ Thursday, Jan 29 | 1:00pm–4:00pm Get creative and prep for the rally with your fellow students. Pizza is provided! 3️⃣ SEND A POSTCARD 📍 CSU Library Lounge 🗓️ All week (Jan 26–30) | 11:30am–4:00pm Stop by the lounge and take 60 seconds to write down how tuition hikes affect you. We’ll send it to the Minister on your behalf! There is strength in numbers and power in protest. Don’t let them price us out—see you this week! ✊🔥

As soon as we heard about the province’s review of BC’s colleges and universities, we stepped up. Side by side with the Alliance of BC Students (@students_bc ) and partner student unions, we held a press conference to sound the alarm about the risks to education access, call on government to protect regional campuses, and properly fund the system. We demonstrate that students are organized, united, and ready to defend our campuses from harmful cuts, closures, or mergers.

We didn’t go to Victoria alone. CSU joined forces with the Alliance of BC Students (@students_bc ) and other allied post-secondary institutions to meet with MLAs to voice students' concerns and discuss the future of BC’s post-secondary system. Different campuses, same message: students need the province's support.

The BC Government just initiated a review of the public post-secondary education system in BC. The review is a farce: a ridiculously short process that puts students at risk of tuition increases, school mergers, and cuts to services. BC students are clear: raising tuition, closing schools, and laying off campus workers won't fix our public post-secondary education system, it will destroy it. #bcstudents #bcpse #bcpoli #solidarity

The Alliance of BC Students and the AMS, alongside 7 other student unions, gathered at the BC Legislature to make it clear that students cannot absorb more cuts and tuition hikes. We are calling on the province to protect the 2% tuition increase cap and fix the funding crisis with real investment, not higher bills for students. Link in bio for our full statement.

BC students stand in solidarity with striking public sector workers fighting for a fair contract from their employer. BCGEU and PEA members have taken job action to demand livable wages, dignity in the workplace, and remote work protections. The provincial government needs to come back to the table with a fair, modern contract for the wildfire fighters, social workers, court clerks, environmental technicians, and other public sector workers that deliver the public services British Columbians rely on every single day. #bcstudents #bcpse #bcpoli #bcgeustrike2025 #solidarity

On Thursday, May 15th we were honoured to march as part of the @moose_hide_campaign to end gender-based violence against women and children, including and especially the disproportionate amount of gender-based violence against Indigenous women, girls, and 2-spirit folks. Thank you to former ABCS Chairperson @aryanna.chartrand and former student leader @tashiakootenayoo for educating us and leading the way 🙌🏼 The Moosehide Campaign is an Indigenous-led movement started by a daughter and father to engage men and boys in the movement to end gender-based violence against women and children. To learn more about how you can engaged as a post-secondary organization, go to moosehidecampaign.ca. #MoosehideCampaignDay

Student representatives were at the Legislature this week calling for urgent action on post-secondary education. 📣 With institutions running deficits, cuts to academic programs, reduced student services and widespread layoffs — students are paying more for less. More support for the public post-secondary system is critical.⁣ ⁣ We called on the government to:⁣ ✅ Strengthen the tuition limit policy⁣ ✅ Release the results of the funding review’s first phase⁣ ✅ Implement a new, equitable funding model⁣ ✅ Reinvest stable, annual public funding into the system⁣ ⁣ We met with Premier David Eby, the Minister of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills, the critic for Post-Secondary Education, and MLAs from the BC NDP, BC Conservatives, and BC Green Party — ensuring student voices were heard across party lines 🤝⁣ ⁣ Representatives from the BCFS were joined by student leaders from @uvss @students_bc @sfss_sfu and @bcitsa — together representing over 325,000 students across BC.⁣ ⁣ As financial pressures mount, we’ll keep fighting for a well-funded, affordable, and accessible post-secondary system for all. #bcpse #bcpoli #StopTheCuts #FundItFixIt ⁣ @davidebybc @annekangburnaby @joanphillipndp @susiechantnvs @amnashahbc @paulchoibc @sunitadhirbc @rick.glumac @jenniferwhitesidenewwest @brittnyandersonmla @garry.begg @terryyungbc @ninakriegerbc @rohiniarora.bc @cowichanmla @christineeboyle @jenn.wick @georgeandersonbc @dana.lajeunesse @diana_gibson_bc @stephaniehigginsonbc @korky.neufeld @mack4change @gavindew @sheldondclare @kiel.giddens @petermilobar @greenpartybc
