Behind every safe community in British Columbia are officers who show up, to crime scenes, mental health crises, and every unpredictable situation in between. Public safety isn't abstract; it exists because everyday British Columbians choose to step between order and chaos, without recognition and without a reset button. We recognize the bravery, dedication, and professionalism of police officers across the province, including those represented by the Police Association. Thank you for showing up when others can't, for making impossible decisions under pressure, and for the quiet professionalism that keeps our communities safe. Day after day, without fanfare, without hesitation.

Looking at the budget today and the government now wants to tax businesses who have paid for their own security services. That doesn’t make sense. Public safety is supposed to be government’s job. Not something small businesses get billed extra for.

Seven missing officers. One growing community. These are provincial RCMP positions and West Kelowna has already funded its share. Public safety depends on having the right resources in place. Right now, those resources are missing.

Another fantastic day in Peachland at the Peachland Classic Car Show. Thank you to the Peachland Chamber of Commerce, the Peachland Car Nutts, all the volunteers, and everyone who brought their amazing vehicles out today. The turnout was incredible and it was great to see families, neighbours, visitors, and local businesses all coming together for another tremendously successful community event. So much hard work, pride, and craftsmanship on display today. Peachland always shows up. #Peachland #ClassicCars #CarShow #Okanagan #Community

Police work is hard in ways most people never see. The shifts that don't end. The calls that don't leave you. I wore that uniform, I know what it asks of you. Officers carry that weight every single day, and they still show up. Thank you to every officer serving our communities. You do a job most people couldn't, and it doesn't go unnoticed.

The Trepanier encampment sits on Crown land. The province is responsible for what happens there. There are serious concerns at this encampment: wildfire risk, reports of domestic violence, public safety complaints, and the very real threat of water contamination from a creek that feeds directly into the local water supply. These are not minor issues. The NDP needs to stop dragging its feet and take responsibility for the safety of this community. #bcpoli

The BC Conservatives debated the NDP’s Bill 9 through the night because this issue matters. Bill 9 makes it harder for British Columbians to access information about their own government. We debated until 3 AM, when the NDP government forced closure to shut down debate and push the vote through. We were not finished. We had hours more to say. That should concern people. Freedom of information and open debate are fundamental parts of a functioning democracy. Governments should not fear scrutiny from the public or opposition. But instead of allowing debate to continue, the NDP chose to shut it down. A government trying to limit public access to information should not also be silencing opposition voices in the Legislature. British Columbians deserve transparency, accountability, and open debate, not less.

Think about how far things have gone in British Columbia. Small businesses are now hiring private security just to keep their staff safe, prevent theft, and keep their doors open. And now the NDP government is expanding the PST onto those security services. I asked the minister a simple question: how does taxing essential security help anyone? There was no real answer. Because there isn’t one. Business owners are already dealing with rising theft, disorder, operating costs, and safety concerns. Many have been forced to hire security because government failed to maintain basic public safety in too many communities. Now those same businesses are being told to pay even more. That cost will not disappear. It will be passed on to businesses, workers, and customers across BC. This is what happens when governments normalize disorder and then tax people for trying to protect themselves from it.

We left the Legislature at 4 AM. Back again this morning on just a few hours sleep. Why? Because Bill 9 matters. The NDP forced closure on debate last night to push through legislation that changes and restricts how British Columbians access information from their own government. That should concern everyone. Access to information is one of the ways the public holds government accountable. When governments make it harder to obtain records, limit scrutiny, and shut down debate, transparency suffers. The BC Conservatives are not going to back down on this. We will continue standing up for accountability, transparency, and the public’s right to know what government is doing behind closed doors.

It’s after midnight and we are still in the Legislature debating Bill 9. That should tell British Columbians how serious this issue is. This legislation would make it harder for the public to access records from their own government. Less transparency. Less accountability. More power behind closed doors. That is why the BC Conservatives introduced a hoist motion to suspend this bill for six months and allow for greater consultation and public input. Government records belong to the people of British Columbia, not to politicians trying to avoid scrutiny. We are prepared to go the distance on this bill because standing up for transparency and accountability is the right thing to do.#bcpoli
