Post-secondary rally photo dump, part 2

The BC government says the system isn’t working, and we agree, but students shouldn’t be asked to pay the price. The province has launched a full review of BC’s post-secondary system, and they’ve confirmed the crisis students have been living through. Almost every institution will be in a deficit by 2028/29. Reserves are disappearing fast. The entire sector is about to be in the red for the first time ever. Instead of committing to the stable public funding needed to fix this, the review puts tuition fee increases on the table. Students are already paying more than their fair share. Tuition has risen steadily for decades while government funding has not. Raising fees is not a solution. Cutting programs is not a solution. Only real investment will stabilise BC’s colleges and universities. Take action: visit the link in our bio to join the Cuts Suck. Fix Education campaign and demand proper funding for public education.

Access is under attack, what do we do? Stand up, fight back! Even the rain couldn’t stop us. Students were loud and clear this weekend: we will not stand for tuition fee increases. From Terrace to Prince George, Kamloops to Kelowna, Castlegar to Vancouver Island, and across the Lower Mainland — students travelled from every corner of the province to rally for our public post-secondary education system. We chanted. We shared our stories. We stood shoulder-to-shoulder with other student unions, faculty associations, and labour allies. And we sent one message to government: students are not a revenue source. The post-secondary sustainability review cannot take the easy way out. Tuition hikes won’t fix decades of chronic underfunding. Students are relying on @davidebybc and @jessieksunner to step up and provide the public funding needed to stop the program cuts, reduce waitlists, and end the layoffs happening on our campuses. Investing in education is investing in BC. A special thanks to @cupebc @bcfedoflabour @fpsebc @capstudentunion @students_bc @sfss_sfu @douglasfaculty @capilanouniversityfaculty the New West & District Labour Council the Langara Faculty Association and all the other allies and members of the public who stood in solidarity with us. #TheStudentsUnitedWillNeverBeDefeated #BCStudents #CutsSuckFixEducation #EducationIsAPublicGood

Two weeks ago, we had the pleasure of speaking to elected officials about the growing affordability pressures, program cuts, and loss of student supports on campuses. BC students are calling for real and sustainable change. We want intentional action to stop costs from rising and prevent further damage to our public post-secondary system. 📢📢📢You too can make your voice heard! Visit CutsSuck.ca to view our asks and email your MLA, the Minister, and Premier, asking them to fix our education. #CutsSuck #FixEducation

📣📣📣 Students are making their voices heard! Since September, 14 student unions across the province sent over 3,000 postcards to the Minister of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills. Students are fed up with program cuts, service reductions, layoffs, and long class waitlists. We are asking for the provincial government to fund our post-secondary system to provide long-term financial stability. So join thousands of students across BC and tell the government that cuts suck and they need to fix education. Ask your students’ union how you can send a postcard to the Minister or visit CutsSuck.ca to send an email.

It’s time for students to be heard and for post secondary to be a priority here in BC! Recently, Manitoba announced a $882.6 million investment in operating funding for universities, colleges and adult learning programs. Meanwhile, post secondary in BC is being underfunded and institutions are facing record breaking financial cuts. 🗣️Students🗣️ it’s time to get LOUD! Head to www.cutssuck.ca (linked in bio) to write an email to the BC Minister of Post Secondary and Future Skills and let’s tell our government that a re-investment in students and post secondary is and needs to be a priority.

Good news for students 📣 The Canada Student Grant increase is sticking around for another year—helping reduce financial barriers and support students across the country. But students need stability, not uncertainty. It’s time to make this funding permanent. Sign the petition (link in bio) and help push for long-term support.

On January 31, students and educators from across B.C. rallied for public education funding as part of the BCFS Cuts Suck. Fix Education campaign. With concerns about closed-door reviews and no new funding, speakers warned that without investment, students will continue choosing between rent, groceries, and tuition. Students. Workers. Faculty. Together. 🎥 Full video on YouTube #RallyForPostSecondary

Budget 2026 is out — and students are still being left behind. Across BC, campuses are cutting programs, laying off staff, and shrinking services, while the province continues to underfund post-secondary education. This budget lacks a clear plan to stabilize institutions, protect affordability, or rebuild a post-secondary system that works for students — not one that relies on constant cuts and rising fees. “Education is a vital public service,” said BCFS Chairperson Debi Herrera Lira. “By not increasing operating grants, the government is consciously allowing the continued erosion of our campuses. Students are already feeling the consequences — fewer courses, longer times to graduate, and higher costs.” Read the Federation’s full blog post on what the BC Budget means for students. it’s not too late to ask them to be your valentine. 👀❤️ In all seriousness.. we need an end to program cuts and staff layoffs, a commitment to more public funding for post-secondary, fair treatment for international students and a guarantee tuition increases won’t be used to offset decades of systemic underfunding. Students already struggle to meet basic housing and food needs. Our government’s must find ways to stabilize our institutions, and their budgets, that don’t pass costs onto students, families and future learners.
