Advocating for student needs means getting a seat at the table with the people who make the big decisions. 🤝
Earlier this week, the CSU was pleased to host MLAs @susiechantnvs and Lynne Block, along with staff from the offices of MPs @terryjamesbeech and @jonathanwnv and MLA jervaleriote for a productive government relations meeting.
Building these relationships is vital for making sure CapU students remain a priority at both the provincial and federal levels. We look forward to continuing these partnerships to drive meaningful change for our membership! 🏔️

We travelled to Ottawa last week to make sure @CapilanoU students are heard where decisions are made.
Over four days we met with MP Patrick Weiler, MP Parm Bains, Senator Bev Busson, MP Jenny Kwan, the Speaker of the House of Commons, Senator Leo Housakos, and MP Gurbux Saini, along with staff from the offices of Senator Baltej Dhillon, Senator Duncan Wilson, MP Marc Dalton and Senator Pierre Moreau.
In those meetings we pushed for stronger federal action on the issues students are facing right now, including investment in student housing, fair treatment for international students, increased post-secondary funding and renewed investment in public transit that helps students access education and work.
Student voices matter in Ottawa, and we will keep showing up to make sure CapU students are heard.

Flowers aren’t the only things blooming on campus this month. 🌼
CSU president Benisse Zinga met with @capilanou president Jason Dewling today to discuss services, campus spaces, and how to best serve the heart of CapU: the student body!
It’s no secret that the post-secondary sector is facing some big hurdles, but it’s encouraging to see our leaders rising to the challenge together.
Feeling really optimistic about the seeds we’re planting this spring. Let’s see what grows! 🌱
The Capilano Students’ Union recognizes the value of hearing student perspectives from outside our elected student leadership group—this helps our board of directors make the best and most fully considered decisions for the organization. That’s why we are looking for five student leaders who are interested in sharing their perspectives, ideas, and suggestions, each focusing on one of our five student executive portfolios.
💵 Pay: $99.44 per board meeting

It's official!🗳️
The general election results have been certified following the receipt of the election administrator's report.
These results are a major milestone for our five-year strategic plan. We set out to boost domestic student turnout while keeping our international community's energy high—and the numbers prove we’re right on track!
The addition of pop-up voting sites in the Bosa, Fir, Birch, and Cedar buildings as well of our on-the-ground, get-out-the-vote campaign helped bring the election to the voters.
THE IMPACT
- domestic voter turnout has increased over 240% since 2024
- fine & applied arts participation nearly quadrupled to 9.4% among eligible voters
- arts & sciences remains a powerhouse of campus democracy at 11.66% turnout
Congratulations to our newly elected board of directors! Whether you’re stepping into a vacant seat immediately or starting your term on June 1, we are excited for the energy you’re bringing to the CSU.
Thank you to every student who took the time to vote and shape the future of CapU.
We were thrilled to collaborate with @capilanou Centre for Teaching Excellence on an event celebrating faculty members who have worked hard to adopt open education resources (such as free textbooks) in their classrooms. It really does make a huge difference in terms of student affordability and helps keep post-secondary education accessible. We are grateful to bccampus.ca for contributing funds for this event.
