Tonight: Sound processes between decay, memory and technical practice. JUNE 05, RABBIT HOLE THEATER / NEUE MUSIK ZENTRALE, ESSEN HEARING ABNORMALITIES With Tarik Haskić, Stephanie Castonguay and NKISI, this evening shifts the focus from the work to the process. Instead of appearing as a finished product, sound here emerges as a cybernetic, material and rhythmic movement between material, technology and memory – fragile, permeable, open. Electronic media are not treated as an abstract surface, but are exposed in their material and ecological conditionality. Decaying sound carriers, hacked equipment, hybrid interfaces and archives of field recordings make it both audible and visible that every digital practice is based on concrete resources, decisions and power relations. Technology is not conceived as neutral, but as a carrier of history, selection and exclusion. At the same time, the concert itself becomes an experimental arrangement. An evening carried by two neighbouring venues (Rabbit Hole Theater & Neue Musik Zentrale) that have been shaping the music scene in Essen for years with their independent, sophisticated programmes. Liebig12 is happy to announce Stephanie Castonguay as artist in Residency at Liebig12! Experimentalist at heart, canadian artist Stephanie Castonguay develops a hands-on practice rooted in materiality, listening, and transformation. Through the construction of DIY instruments and the repurposing of obsolete machines, she explores sound as a living process shaped by touch, decay, and unpredictability. Her work reveals hidden resonances within analog systems, where fragility, accidents, and attention become tools for improvisation and presence. on 16.05 Stephanie will perform “soft_cuts” at Galiläakirche unfolding as a tactile, luminous ritual for hacked turntables and their interplay using modular synthesis, named for the soft yet lasting marks engraved through time, bodies, and sound. Using Playmobil-built turntables with multiple tonearms, soft_cuts explores fragmented, decomposing bio-vinyls – stacked, layered, and partially erased – read by altered needles, sometimes tracing grooves backward. In the same night she will perform an improvised set along with berlin turntablist JD Zazie details about the concert here: /event/jd-zazie-stephanie-castonguay-solos-duo-_on-turntables/____more tba!

Using Playmobil-built turntables with multiple tonearms, soft_cuts explores fragmented, decomposing bio-vinyls - stacked, layered, and partially erased - read by altered needles, sometimes tracing grooves backward. JD Zazie – solo JD Zazie is an experimental DJ, avant-turntablist, sound artist and curator. Coming from a DJ and a radiophonic background, JD Zazie has explored different approaches to real-time manipulation of fixed recorded sound. In her work she redefines DJ and electroacoustic activities. L As a solo performer, in small groups, and in large ensembles, she works in an area which is constantly stretching the borders of what could be defined as DJ mixing, free improvisation and composed music. JD Zazie is a member of Reanimation Orchestra, is part of Hic Up (w/ Marina Cyrino, Tony Elieh, Matthias Koole) and plays regularly solo and duo with Heidrun Schramm and Peter Cusack. She is the art director of the MuseRuole - women in experimental music festival, a member of the Burp Enterprise collective and broadcasts monthly on Colaboradio and on Reboot.fm.
