SÍM Residency artist-in-residence Nicolette Michalla (she/her) Argentina / @nicolettemichalla Residency period: May 2026 Nicolette is a dance artist from Buenos Aires, based in Berlin. With a background in Nutrition studies, her work explores the intersections of sound and movement. She investigates gestures of resistance in human and non-human bodies, using field recording to amplify the unheard sounds of nature and the human form. Bridging the audible and the silenced through deep listening and movement, during the last years her practice incorporates sonic experimentation to bridge the gap between the tangible and the invisible, unearthing structures of resilience across social and natural landscapes. 1_Nicolette 2_ANÓN 3_ANÓN_sound installation_IN SONORA 14 Madrid 4_ANÓN_movement research_LABOR by the Choreography Center Bleiburg/Pliberk (CCB) in cooperation with DOMENIG STEINHAUS, Austria. 5_ANÓN 6_I give you my heart_NEUSTART KULTUR, DIS-TANZEN program of the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland 7_UMBRAL_NEUSTART KULTUR, DIS-TANZEN program of the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland 8_In dialog with myself_Ada Studios Berlin 9_NomenNescio_Sõltumatu Tantsu Lava Theater #SIM #simresidncy #artistinresidence #art #internationalartist #Iceland #Reykjavik #artproject #AIR #berlin #contemporarydanceberlin

Still building, already feeling it. Tomorrow is opening day. ✦ Art / Earth — Jöklaminni arrives at @bacartlab in Leuven. A work-in-progress exhibition emerging from exchange between artists and scientists in Iceland, Belgium and The Netherlands. Belgian artists spent a month in residence at @sim_residency in Reykjavík, walking glaciers and working alongside glaciologists. Icelandic artists came to @c.takt in Pelt, tracing a.o. the Dommel and, guided by Nick Steur/@soap_maastricht , the Maas. Scientific field data from the expeditions in Iceland contribute to ICELINK, a European research project on polar ice. Throughout, researchers from @jongeacademie were part of the conversation. The works on view are not conclusions — they are living traces of an ongoing dialogue between art and science. Opening tonight, Thursday 7 May · 5 pm · free Exhibition until 23 May · Thu–Sat · 1–6 pm → More info: link in bio On 13 May: public event with @jongeacademie — work presentations by artists & panel discussion with some of the artists & scientists connected to Jonge Academie, moderated by science journalist Ilse Boeren (@eoswetenschap ). → Register: link in bio — With the following artists: @mattias_de_craene · @stijndemeulenaere · @julie_sjofn_gasiglia · @valasigthrudarjonsdottir · @sgyda · @nicksteur · Kevin Trappeniers and curators @thoranna76 & @nicolas_baeyens Partners: @simresidency @jongeacademie @c.takt @soap_maastricht @werkplaatswalter #icelink @haskoli_islands @bacartlab @eoswetenschap With the support of @vlaamseoverheid and the city of @leuven

SÍM Residency artist-in-residence Janise Yntema (she/they) BE janiseyntema.com @janiseyntema Residency period: May 2026 Janise Yntema is a visual artist working in the genre of landscape: both within and without of an exhibition space, to include photography, installation, storytelling and painting. Working to engage the elegiac loss of landscape through materials bound to fragile ecological systems and their decline, Yntema works primarily with natural elements: beeswax, natural resin, earth, ash and fibers as well as, elemental forces, such as wind, rain and changing atmospheres to encompass time and erosion. Within the frame of landscape, encompassing the politics of land appropriation and land exploitation, her focus is the ecological and cultural politics of the changing landscape. Iceland remains a unique environment: from geothermic energy, to a country built upon a stable political system where gender discrimination is minimized: Thank you, SÌM Residency, for this opportunity to explore the culture, history, myth and the spirit of the people and the land. 1. Opið hús í SÍM Residency/Open House at SÍM Residency Tuesday 28.04.26 - 5:00-8:00 PM SÍM Residency Project Space Seljavegur 32, 101 Reykjavík Iceland SÍM Residency warmly invites you to an Open House at Seljavegur 32. This evening offers a unique opportunity to enter the working environment of the current international artists-in-residence, meet them in person, and engage directly with their ongoing research and artistic processes. The residency programme brings together artists from diverse cultural and creative backgrounds, fostering dialogue between local contexts and international perspectives. During their time in Reykjavík, the artists have been exploring themes connected to materiality, ecology, technology, and human relations, often through close engagement with Icelandic resources and landscapes. Visitors are invited to move through the studios and encounter works in progress. The Open House presents a rare glimpse into artistic processes as they unfold: installations, experiments, and material investigations that reveal both method and inquiry. Works include the use of locally sourced materials such as glacier and geothermal clay, Icelandic wool, and organic matter including seaweed transformed into bio-materials. The programme also features casting techniques, analog photography, and film screenings, offering a layered experience across disciplines. Rather than a formal exhibition, the event emphasizes process over completion, an invitation to witness artistic thinking as an active, evolving condition. It is an opportunity to ask questions, exchange ideas, and experience how artistic practices respond to place, environment, and shared concerns. This Open House creates a shared space between artists and audience, where studio, exhibition, and conversation intersect.
