1922 Revisited: Live Arts Program Presented by @thirdspaceartfoundation In collaboration with @aavf and @ecc_italy Program Curator: @janinesytsma Curatorial Producer: @lehuntnouveau Program partners: @fca_ghana @NEWMEDIA @uarkart @uark.arthistory @ccalagos @theafricacenter Venice Biennale | May 5–9 Wednesday, May 6 The Dash Wura-Natasha Ogunji and ruby onyinyechi amanze The Dash is a performance of two runners who race in slow motion for exactly one hour. The performance may be staged within an interior or exterior space: the fixed space of a room; an open plaza; tight city corridors; or from a start line to the finish. The spectators play an important role in this staged competition. As vocal timekeepers, they collectively signal the start time, the half-way mark, and crossing of the finish line. In their embodiment of restraint and reverberation, collectivity and calm, the performers incorporate facial expressions, hand signals and other gestures as critical choreography and necessary glitch. This movement-language references and riffs from the archive and research of the African sculptures of the 1922 Venice Biennale; track and field competitions; and the languages of drawing shared by amanze and Ogunji. The title of the performance–with its multiple meanings–offers an additional layer of poetic possibility to this endeavor. A dash is a quick run, a punctuation mark, and in Nigeria, a gift, or a bribe. Turning to the grammatical dash, the race could be conceptualized as break or interruption. Inviting separation from the usual rushing of time, the performance might also be read as the belaboured writing of a long run-on sentence. 📷: @francescabottazzin_ph Follow @thirdspaceartfoundation for more reflections on 1922 Revisited and announcements about future programs Additional information on the foundation and programs → #1922revisited #venicebiennale @wuraogunji @ruby_onyinyechi_draws

MEXICO CITY I Now On View   ruby onyinyechi amanze, SWIMMING POOL MAGAZINE DANCE [musings in Mexico City]   On view through January 10, 2026   In this exhibition, titled SWIMMING POOL  MAGAZINE DANCE [musings in Mexico City], the artist transforms the gallery into an introspective laboratory to showcase materials, questions, and experiments. If on paper her drawings challenge two-dimensionality, here amanze explores the spatial dimensions of the white cube in an open process that allows us a glimpse into the essence of her practice. [Installation Images of SWIMMING POOL MAGAZINE DANCE, 2025. ruby was born on Nov 15th, 1982. Today she is 42 years old. Weird before weird was cool. Awkward black girl before it had a name. Big feeler pre "are you having Big Feelings?" Chronically insatiable. A deeply and wildly free alien. Sometimes she lays on an electromagnetic scanning bed to measure the minute difference between her right and left quadriceps. She counts macros and drop set weights. Any opportunity to cartwheel or jump on a box is taken. Making art was all there was. Since birth. To today. A duty. A service. #scorpioaunty #17yroldanthem #stayweird #stayhydrated Scorpio dress by fellow weirdo @weartowall

It was 408 days in the making [more if you count everything-everything]. I am proud of what we did and have also, already forgotten. Was it even me? Here is a marker of time. A dot on a line. Some questions answered-ish [?] many more swirling us on. THE POETICS OF SPACE on view @marianeibrahimgallery Paris. Many thanks to the brilliant and kind team for all the things. To Mariane - a day-one-believer - cheers to us as we approach year 10. And to my people, for flying across an ocean to hold me down. My heart is still full. @samantharporter @saharchphoto @chardy410 @tiffanytavarez @jamesebartlett

#throwback to when this happened. A (semi) legit dance company was created: THE DECK = myself + @emileelord + @mormendel We wrote. We researched. We rehearsed. We had anxiety. We trusted. We performed... "Tell me a way you pretend to be strong" June 20th, 2021 @collezione_maramotti in Reggio Emilia, Italy. Special thanks to the Director, @sara.piccinini for being so damn lovely. And to the formidable @chardy410 for the sound architecture with ample drums. It's all still reverberating through me. It's not yet, quite real. Did I dream it? Not sure. All I know, is my heart is full of gratitude and wonder. Images courtesy of Collezione Maramotti Ph. Bruno Cattani-Foto Superstudio
