Another Logo by me - walking through Camden today I saw another logo designed by me - also strangely iconic - I did this logo years ago when I was working with the inspirational Peter Simon who briefly owned the Electric Cinema in Notting Hill and the Electric Ball Room in Camden with the idea of building an ‘Electric group ‘ before he sold the electric cinema to the SoHo house group - ( this is all from memory so I hope it’s correct) - The logo was based on dot matrix printed till receipts which felt electric and modern.

Sad news to lose Giorgio Armani It was absolutely a privilege to have worked and collaborated with Mr Armani for about seven years - a complex man haunted by his own success but an inspiration and visionary - I created this logo for him back in the day - me having suggested it, he made me draw it in front of him in the meeting with a cup and a ruler - and made tweaks and approved it on the spot in about 30 minutes. A true force of nature. The passing of a great —

I was thrilled to be asked to be creative director of Sir! a new magazine for men. I love doing magazines for men having been at Arena and Per Liu in the 90’s it’s great when you are the target audience for a title it means you can try at your institution a lot more. From a design point of view I always wanted to do a magazine entirely in DIN which is a great default font and felt very masculine. In a sort of under designed way. A great team led by the energetic @elgarjohnson edited by the indomitable @jimmy__mcintosh and stylishly curated by fashion director @verydavidbradshaw . Another upload to coincide with the excellent THE FACE exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery an early one for me but an iconic one. I remember Jamie Morgan bringing these pictures into the office. I am very junior at THE FACE at this point having only been out of St Martins for less than a year

To coincide with the excellent THE FACE exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery I thought I would post a few issues here - I only worked on The Face about four years but the magazine resonates more than any other title I had the privilege to be involved with. The great Neville Brody came to my degree show at St. Martins in 1984 and offered me a job I had already been working at i-D for a couple of years while a student so it seemed like time for a change - I was 22 years old - I owe everything to i-D and THE FACE

THE FACE, March 1987 —another oldie, I guess. This issue was important for me as I was finding my feet as an art director. There are lots of things I don’t like about it now—I was only 24 years old. This was the first of many collaborations with Nick Knight (we continued to work together for another 20 years or so). The cover is pretty basic, but I am still fond of it. I always liked it when we went into the studio with an idea and a job to do. I remember the child model’s mother arriving with a groovy, hi-tech camera that was way better than the one we had. We were all broke and trying to do the best we could. I was attempting to break away from the ‘industrial’ feel of Neville Brody’s work and introduced a lot of random calligraphy and strange keyline design. Hey ho... 40 Years of London Fashion Week I was pleased to be asked to design this 40-meter-long frieze on display at 180 Strand as part of the celebration of 40 years of London Fashion Week. I realized that the first shows I attended were during LFW’s very first season in 1984—Bodymap, John Galliano, and Hamnett. I had just graduated from St. Martins and started working at THE FACE. It was a privilege to be asked by the BFC to work on this mammoth project alongside the inimitable Sarah Mower whose knowledge and memory were astonishing. As it was not open to the public, I wanted to share it here. Took a few goes to upload it !!! But anyway here it is. I am thrilled to be part of this exciting launch with such a great team. It’s always great when you are the target audience of a brand or magazine that you work on. Your creative instincts are on point, and that makes it very satisfying. @elgarjohnson @circlezeroeight @garyarmstrong @jimmymacmusic @verydavidbradshaw @sirmagazine.co.uk
