I found this vintage album at a record store in Orlando years ago and while I didn’t have a record player at the time, I bought it because I love the art. Mickey Mouse stepped away from making cartoons in the 1970s, but he closed out the decade with this funky album! When I got a record player for Christmas last year, this album has been on repeat ever since! Special thanks to @tipsandbricks for building tip #1112 about building Lego spheres, it helped me make the disco ball! Also I figured Disney’s Pop Century resort at WDW was the perfect backdrop with their mood ring, platform shoes, boogie down decorated 1970s buildings, complete with a giant vintage Mickey Mouse telephone! This habitat represents the 1970s with the release of Disneyland Records’ Mickey Mouse Disco from 1979! In celebration of the Disney habitats, Disney 100 and @brickhuntress #letsbuild100yearsofdisney , I decided to do each habitat with a different decade of Disney history! In the middle of the forest river, by the waterfall, Pocahontas and John Smith meet each other for the first time and their story begins. 🌲🏞️🦝 (Habitat 3 of 6) My third habitat for #DisneyHabitats24 with @brickfambuilds and @habitatchallenge shows this epic encounter in my Storybook Forest. I learned years ago that some countries title Pocahontas with an extra subtitle - e.g. in Brazil it’s called “Pocahontas: O Encontro de Dois Mundos.” This translates to English as “The Meeting of Two Worlds.” I always thought what a poetic way to convey the story in the title, especially if those audiences did not grow up learning about Pocahontas. My second build for the awesome @brickfambuilds @trickybricks #LegoDisneyHabitats challenge is with one of my childhood favorites Peter Pan! And to tell the story of Peter Pan, one needs the Darling children so naturally I had to make some minifigure customs ( 😊 with a lot of great inspiration from the designs by @legoman36jt ). For my habitat, I chose to recreate the corner of the Darling Nursery with John’s bed! It was the most fun out of all of them bc John and Michael hung up their sheets and tied them to the bed posts to make their own pirate ship! ⚓️ It reminds me of when I was a kid and my brother and sister and I draped sheets over the bunk bed in my room to make forts, tents and castles. We always felt like the Darling Children too bc our sister was the eldest and took the role of Wendy, my older brother as John, and myself as Michael (w/ my yellow teddy Buster as Bear 🐻) . . . Being a Disney themed habitat week and considering I typically photograph Lego at Walt Disney World, I took my habitat into the wild at Disney’s Riviera Resort! 🏢The European Resort was inspired by Walt Disney and his wife Lillian’s famous “first” vacation since starting his company. Around every corner of the Riviera Resort are brilliant pieces of art inspired by all the Disney stories that take place in Europe. 🖼 Near the Skyliner Gondola station that connects to the parks, the Disney imagineers and artists made beautiful mosaic murals that stretch from the floor to the ceiling (and around to the other side!). Happy #DisneyHabitats26 Stack Day!! This year has been such a treat to share three of my biggest joys in life: Lego, Disney and Theater! 🧱🏰🎭 Each brought me so many cool people and new friends in my life. Two of them I actually first met through the Lego community, and we became closer friends through our love of Disney and Broadway! So I made sure to add Brian @__tm31__ and Sam @otter_named_roogert to the audience for my final stack! I also expanded the stage and added a custom Elsa from @disneyonbroadway ’s Frozen to represent another great Disney Theatrical production! The reference photo here from the souvenir program of Frozen’s national tour is Elsa in her fierce pants suit from Act II! ❄️👖 This is always a great time of year for me, so thank you to @habitatchallenge and Jessica @dontbrickmedown for making May so magical and hosting such a great community building event. Newsies 📰 Day 3 of the magical month of May for my favorite Lego Habitat build season #disneyhabitats26 with @habitatchallenge and @dontbrickmedown ! This year I’m showcasing some of my favorite Disney on Broadway @disneyonbroadway musicals reimagined through the magic of @Lego bricks ✨🧱🎭 🗞️ Newsies - a masterpiece of musical theatre! With the incredible music, creative transforming set, insane choreography, powerful story, and the TRIPLE THREAT cast to perform it all, it’s no wonder this show won two Tony Awards when it burst onto Broadway in 2012! Newsies is easily my favorite musical from Disney Theatrical and quite possibly favorite musical of all time 🤩 I did my best to capture that by building a habitat sized version of the unique NYC 🏙️ metal scaffolding/fire escape set from the show. The minifigures here are customs of Jack Kelly, Specs, and a random Newsie to round out the Lego cast. In the audience to represent the fansies we have none other than our build challenge creator Jen @brickfambuilds and this month’s wonderful host Jessica @dontbrickmedown ! 😁 I also have a few photos of minifig Specs doing the incredible newspaper choreography! When I saw the show in 2013, the “Seize the Day” musical number had me floored with its unforgettable choreo! Broadway fans will often cite other shows of having amazing choreography (e.g. The Outsiders), but to me no one has yet topped Newsies. Choreographer Christopher Gatelli totally deserved the Tony for his work! If you scroll to the end, you’ll see a few clips from the Newsies Tony Awards performance in 2012! The amazingly talented Ryan Steele was the original Specs seen here. I’m still flabbergasted watching him do those perfectly executed pirouettes - and on top of a newspaper too! 📰

Mary Poppins ☂️ Day 2 of the magical month of May for my favorite Lego Habitat build season #disneyhabitats26 with @habitatchallenge and @dontbrickmedown ! This year I’m showcasing some of my favorite Disney on Broadway @disneyonbroadway musicals reimagined through the magic of @Lego bricks ✨🧱🎭 Mary Poppins is practically perfect in every way, and Mary even sings those very words when we meet her in the musical! 🎶 While much of the music is the same, the score is expanded and the lyrics and libretto are a bit different than the famous Disney film. I grew up watching the classic movie on repeat with my siblings 📼, so I was simply amazed by the Poppins story told anew for the stage by Disney Theatrical. For a while, it was my favorite musical (before Newsies) and I got to see it three times - twice on Broadway 🍎 and across the pond 🇬🇧 for its revival on the West End! But just like the film uses movie magic, the musical utilizes plenty of theatrical stage magic! 🎭✨The most iconic magical moment is when Mary Poppins flies, though not on stage…she flies over the audience! I chose to recreate that moment for my build today! My custom minifigure of Mary Poppins flies across the house of the New Amsterdam theatre as Bert dances with his chimney sweeper across the stage. Marveling below in the audience of course had to be Mr. Walt Disney himself, along with a custom minifig of his wife Lily. Many have said Mary Poppins was Walt Disney’s crowning achievement in film, so I thought it appropriate his Lego version is here! My Walt Disney World photo shoot location today is the United Kingdom pavilion at EPCOT! The back gardens behind the tea shop have a little street of houses that have the same vibe as Cherry Tree Lane. The Lion King 🦁🦒🕊️ The most magical month is May because it’s time for my favorite Lego Habitat build season #disneyhabitats26 with @habitatchallenge and @dontbrickmedown ! This year I’m showcasing some of my favorite Disney on Broadway @disneyonbroadway musicals reimagined through the magic of @lego bricks ✨🧱🎭 To tell a story live on stage where all the characters are animals, director Julie Taymor chose a bold new approach: the actors would perform in costume and with puppetry, but still be very visible and part of the design. At first glance you don’t see them, only the animal. But look again and you will find the artist giving the animal life. When I first saw clips of Disney Theatrical’s next show on television back in 1997 to when I finally saw it for real on Broadway back in 2015, the artistry of the animal design remains what I always remember most. And that is what I tried to showcase today with my build! The giraffe 🦒 is my favorite costume design and favorite to try to recreate with Lego. My photo location today is at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge 🐘🦒🦓. A stunning Lion metal sculpture decorates the checkout counter at the Zawadi Marketplace by the lobby. I always thought it to be very reminiscent of Julie Taymor’s designs for TLK on Broadway. If you scroll to the end you can check out the real animals that inspired The Lion King both the animated feature and the Broadway show. 🐈 Old Bill enjoys a spot o’ rum on the dock as he tries to convince these cats to join him. They’re having none of it or perhaps they want him to leave so they get it all to themselves! 🐈🍾🍹 My part in @eticket_builders ‘ community challenge “A Builder’s Life for Me” is “The Pirate with Cats” 🐈 also known as Old Bill! He was first created in the 1970s for WDW’s Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. Even though their ride came first in 1969, Disneyland’s Pirates later got Old Bill as well. I thought it fitting that as the resident WDW AFOL, I got assigned Old Bill! 🏴‍☠️ While he is typically seen with two cats, for my build I decided to fill it up with the many types of minifigure scale #LegoCats created in recent years. For the cats screeching at Old Bill, the roles had to go to the ever grumpy Crookshanks. I had a little extra room on the dock so I added an entrepreneurial cat stomping grapes 🍇 into wine just for fun! 🍷Also, I know Capt. Jack Sparrow is not in this part in the ride, but with all that rum scattered about, I couldn’t not include him spying to steal some! 🍹 One final note: as many of you know, I typically photograph minifigs and builds in the Disney theme parks. By sheer coincidence, my posting day (April 24th) happened to fall during my voyage with Disney Cruise Line to the Bahamas on the Disney Fantasy 🚢!! I figured, why not bring my Pirates of the Caribbean build to the actual Caribbean!? 😎 Today these are the tropical shores of Disney’s Lookout Cay, but it very well may be an island once pillaged and plundered upon by salty old pirates and their rum seeking cats! 🐈‍⬛ 🐈🏴‍☠️🐈🐈‍⬛ Make sure you check back with @eticket_builders every day for the next scene in this community effort to recreate the whole Pirates of the Caribbean attraction in Lego! #legopirates #legopiratesofthecaribbean #legocaptainjacksparrow #disneylandpiratesofthecaribbean
