When
@tomkligerman approached me three years ago with the idea for this book, I was elated. Not only had I long admired Tom’s work, but to spend two years exploring and photographing homes in Rhode Island was an opportunity I had only dreamt of. We spent a few spring days together scouring the coast looking at houses, dropping pins, sneaking photos through hedges, and trying to figure out how to gain access to our favorites. As with most things in this small state of ours, we were never much more than a degree or two away from the owner. We quickly got to work shooting.
Along for the ride was
@matthewgleasonstylist , who helped make sense of spaces that had been filled with decades if not generations of objects. No photoshoot is without a few logistical issues (rain mostly) but we navigated our way to some of the most special and unique homes I’ve ever had the honor to capture. Each and every one was a reminder that the purest luxury means loving what you have and creating memories with it. My hope is that this collection of homes inspires people to protect and revive historic buildings along the New England coast and elsewhere.
