What happens when an artist invites other artists?
‘untitled 2026 (a gathering of remarkable people)’
Hear it from the artist himself, Rirkrit Tiravanija, and co-curators Tom Eccles and Ruba Katrib, who brought this vision to life at Qatar’s National Pavilion at the 61st @labiennale 🇮🇹
A space rooted in the oldest instinct we know - to gather, to share, to welcome. Where hospitality is the art form and the invitation never closes.
Produced by @qatar_museums and presented by @rubaiyaqatar . On now until 22 November 2026.
At @labiennale di Venezia, the National Pavilion of Qatar opens a space shaped less by spectacle and more by presence - where conversation, sound, food, and performance come together as part of a shared cultural experience.
Rooted in the idea of the majlis, ‘untitled 2026 (a gathering of remarkable people)’ reflects a broader movement across the region: one where contemporary Arab culture is not confined to a single discipline, geography, or voice, but continuously evolving through collaboration and exchange.
More than a presentation, the pavilion offers a living reflection of how culture is experienced today - collectively, openly, and in real time.
When the world shifts, artists don’t stop creating. They start paying closer attention to the details.
Growing up in Doha, visual documentation became Rajaa’s way of holding onto the city as it grew with her, capturing the people, places, and moments we often pass by, until they become memories.
Her lens holds onto the parts of Doha we might miss one day🤍
What stayed from @artbasel Qatar wasn’t just how art brings people together, but how it lived across every part of the experience.
Designed by Bouthayna Al Muftah (@b_almuftah ) in collaboration with @qcplus.qa , the official Art Basel Qatar uniform became part of that, moving through the space, carried by real people.
Drawing from her installation, the designs reimagined the traditional thobe and daraa. Rooted in elements of local culture and shaped through a contemporary lens, the piece reflected how Qatar brings local perspectives into a wider, global conversation, not held apart, but lived as a shared experience.
We talk a lot about gathering, but rarely about what actually shapes it.
During Routes & Roots at @liwan.qa ’s Experimental Lab, Aisha Erkin (@ayeshaerkin ) rethinks the sufra as a living system that continues to evolve. A way of sitting, sharing, and sustaining that shifts with the people around it.
Seating becomes a way to think, to remember, to reconnect. Add a chair. Add a pillow. Keep extending the space.
Because sometimes what we build isn’t just a place to sit, but a space people can return to and feel part of.

For decades, the sea was a classroom – a place where knowledge was earned through practice and patience.
Reda Mousa’s story with Qatar Museums began in 1978 in the dhow section. What started after his high school graduation became a lifelong commitment to understanding the craft, history, and expertise held within Qatar’s traditional boats – and to preserving the skills that shaped the country’s maritime identity.
To him, this field connects directly to Qatar’s civilization, culture, and a way of life that helped shape the nation as it stands today. His message to the next generation is clear: stay curious about the past, especially when it comes to the sea🌊
Through individuals like Reda, maritime heritage continues to be carried forward and shared.
Today, Reda Mousa is celebrated as part of #EvolutionNation ✨
