For the very first time, we crown hair as the cover story; and there’s no one more fitting to lead this celebration than 𝐋𝐢𝐬𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐛𝐞, founder of 𝐇𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐨.
In our inaugural 𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒅𝒂𝒓 𝑯𝒂𝒊𝒓 issue, we go beyond the surface to meet the woman behind the brand. From her personal journey and entrepreneurial spark to the expansive vision she’s building, Lisa Madibe opens up about identity, culture, and what it truly takes to thrive in the ever-evolving beauty industry. As 𝑯𝒂𝒊𝒓𝒍𝒐 turns one, we’re honoured to mark this moment with her — and to launch this powerful new chapter of our publication in celebration of her milestone.

Legends don’t just exist in history books—they walk among us, shaping culture, preserving heritage, and inspiring generations. Today, we unveil the first edition of 𝑃𝑟𝑒𝑣𝑖𝑑𝑎𝑟 𝐼𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑠, a celebration of those whose impact transcends borders and time.
And who better to grace our inaugural cover than the incomparable Dr Esther Mahlangu? 🇿🇦
A true custodian of Ndebele art and global culture, Dr Mahlangu’s brushstrokes have told stories for over seven decades—stories of resilience, beauty, and identity. From the walls of her childhood home in Mpumalanga to the halls of Art Basel, her work reminds us that tradition is not static; it lives, breathes, and evolves when passed from one hand to another, one heart to the next.
In conversation with @sheilaafari , Dr Mahlangu reflects on her journey, the power of intergenerational knowledge, and why true icons don’t just create—they uplift, they preserve, they 𝑝𝘢𝑦 𝑖𝘵 𝘧𝑜𝘳𝑤𝘢𝑟𝘥.

In Multitude Identity, colour moves like thought across the body, sometimes vivid and explosive, sometimes restrained into quiet geometries, sometimes slipping entirely beyond definition. Each look feels less like a transformation and more like a revelation, a different version of the same self unfolding in real time.
Here, clothing is not just worn, it thinks, it feels, it questions. Backgrounds dissolve into skin, textures breathe like wet paint, and identity stretches across possibilities without ever settling into one.
“I am not a single story. I am all the ones I can wear.”

A year ago today, we released this editorial story I photographed for Previdar and it still remains one of my favourite bodies of work I’ve created on African soil.
Editorial photography has always been one of the purest forms of storytelling for me. Beyond the aesthetics, I love the process of building worlds collaborating with stylists, designers, glam teams, art directors and incredible talent to create images that feel timeless, cinematic and emotionally honest. It’s where fashion, culture, identity and imagination meet.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of shooting for some of the world’s leading magazines and publications across different cities and continents, but there is something deeply special about creating work here in Africa. The energy, texture, light, elegance and richness of our stories always bring a different kind of magic to the frame.
This Previdar editorial was one of those shoots where everything aligned beautifully; the styling, the mood, the creative direction and the intention behind every image. Looking back a year later, I’m still incredibly proud of what we created together and grateful to everyone who trusted my vision and contributed to bringing it to life.
More editorials. More storytelling. More African excellence.
