We’re proud and honoured to be nominated for MMA26 Best Music Video Category. It’s all thanks to Zee Nxumalo and her team for trusting me to direct the music video. A big thank you to my amazing team and an even bigger thank you to everyone on screen who stayed through the long hours up until the last shot. With every award show or ceremony the most important thing is the recognition. Of course if you ask me I’ll stand 10 toes down to say we have the best video but really and truly, the win here is the nomination as it says that our effort is seen and recognised. “Ngiyakuthanda” Visualiser for Zee Nxumalo 📺 Tough one to execute because we had less than an hour to shoot. Nothing crazy either on the actual idea but real ones know, you need time to pay attention to lighting and composition. Shout out to our mini crew for fighting the clock though. DOP and Edit work for “Thula Mama” by Zakes Bantwini, Skye Wanda & Thakzin Feat. Suffocate SA. There was a concept presented to make a compilation of some archive footage from Zake’s content vault and @kuda_j found a creative way to put it together. My personal challenge was keeping the balance between the footage and Zakes watching it in a theatre. Also, how do you shoot someone watching footage in a theatre alone for 3 min without losing the viewer’s attention? DOP work for Capsule Nights: Amapiano Originators Campaign 📺 (Directors Cut) This one taught me how important it is to trust your team. I think dabbling between directing and shooting can be a bad thing as much as it can be good. On one end you become more precise when working with a DOP but then on the other hand you can fail to empty your sight and see what your director sees when you step into the DOP role. All the posters were added in post and that was my first worry amongst others but @shalatheunicorn said everything is will come out clean and it was indeed. Too cleeeeeean!
