“I know my feelings under my deep skin” is what I sung to myself over 15 years ago. From deep down inside of my body this song pulled me like a powerful siren through the layers of life that had lied to me for decades - pulling me back to myself and towards a personal happiness I didn’t know was possible. When we say we know who we are believe us because it really is only us who know who we are under our deep beautiful skin. To now dance after all these years to @i.jordan own powerful version of DOORWAY feels truly incredible. I just can’t express just how magical this is because back then there were days I didn’t think I’d make it and this song is proof that I did. Thank you my dear friend @i.jordan for showing an old trans lad just how far they’ve come. Love you💟

Tom Joyes @born_slippery has created all the beautiful graphics for this rework project and made probably the most romantic artwork of the set for Romy’s stunning song. It’s covered in photocopy faded hearts which reflects beautifully the love longing in the song. I also love the font Tom used for this release which reminds me of those classic candy hearts. Really gotta make some t-shirts! All the artworks also feature my music label logo, Human Level, which I developed back in 2012 together with my dear old friend and fellow brilliant graphic designer Tom Everett @theverett 🖤
One of the most rewarding things about this rework project is how it celebrates not only the songs I’ve written but also the wonderful friendships I’ve made along the way through my music. I met Romy back in 2011 whilst I was touring W, the album that The One is from, and over the years we have watched each other grow through our music.
I remember visiting Rom and her wife, @viclentaigne another incredible artist, back in early 2020 and listening to Rom’s sketches for her brilliant debut solo album ‘Midair’ and being moved to tears at their honesty and beauty. I think for both of us, music is how we got to be who we really are and how we found our community. The lyric ‘We Dance to Grow, we Grow to Give’ still resonates with me today, and I believe for both of us.
Romy’s passion for music and her talent for creating it blows me away and together with the amazing music producer @lucaperry__ , she managed to transcend the love longing in my original all those years ago into a new and joyous love song.

Not common knowledge but I’ve shot a lot of my own clips for Planningtorock through the years and filmed video’s for the Planningtorock shows. This is me filming the video for ‘Let’s Talk about Gender baby’ back in 2014, I was 42. It’s nice to have an image of me with a camera as I’m so often in front of them. It’s also hard for me to look at myself back then, hiding my body under a mass of black material hoping it would just disappear, unable to face it, unable to know where to begin. Thank fuck for trans health care!!!
