World Frog Day
The Royal Leap-Frog written by @peterbently illustrated by @misspowellposts published by @bloomsburychildrens
A flea and a grasshopper cannot decide who can jump the highest, so accompanied by a humble frog, they travel to the palace to ask the King to decide. Of course the King isn’t very happy about his role as judge, but he does his best to ensure a fair competition.
This is a wonderful updated version of the Hans Christian Andersen Fable The Leaping Match and I thought it would be fun to share this on World Frog Day. The story is told in rhyme and it’s fun and fast paced, the illustrations really compliment the words and make for a laugh out loud experience. My Little Bookworm loved it when everyone started sneezing and I love the ending, which I won’t spoil. This is the second book we’ve read in this series of updated Fairy Tales by Bently and Powell, we loved The Princes and Pea too, so I need to track down a copy of The King’s Suit to complete the set.

I am delighted and proud to support the National Year of Reading 2026 @go_all_in_2026 , a year of campaigning and celebration with a mission to reignite a passion for reading throughout the UK.
Reading in the UK is in crisis. Only 1 in 3 children and young people say they enjoy reading, with the percentage of people reading daily falling to under 21%.
Spearheaded by the @nationalliteracytrust , National Year of Reading 2026 aims to make reading joyful, relevant, and visible for all - in homes, classrooms, workplaces and communities.

Wishing all my friends a happy and peaceful Christmas!
(In case you’re wondering, there were 41 mince pies. Now several less. Or fewer. (Note to self: must save one for🎅!) Xx
Mince pie marathon complete! The total came out at 41, a number rapidly declining as we speak. (Note to self: Better save one for Santa!)
Wishing all my friends and followers a happy and peaceful Christmas! 🎅 Xx
A great day in Portsmouth yesterday as the guest of the excellent @portsmouthsls which works tirelessly to promote reading and bring books and authors to the city’s many schools.
It was certainly a packed day and I had really enjoyable sessions talking to wonderfully engaged children, who came up with some terrific questions and funny story ideas!
A huge thank you to Amy and Lisa from PSLS for inviting me and for your fantastic support all day. Thanks also to Hayling Island Books for supplying the books for signing - 200 of them!
(PS And yes, @steven_lenton , Moorings Way Infants was the scene of your legendary collaboration with the dinner ladies as they began, mid-session, to prep the hall for lunch. It is still talked of to this day. 🤣)

What a fantastic day visiting @st_josephsns_castlemaine in Co. Kerry!
Thank you to the brilliant children and wonderful staff for having me, and for such a warm welcome. The children were a joy to work with, funny and engaged (and full of excellent questions, many of them about football 😂).
And very special thanks to Parents’ Association chair Ed Keane for inviting me and organising everything so smoothly. It was a pleasure to meet you and @noreen_lk and your delightful girls. Thank for your all your kindness and generosity (and cake!).
Also great to see a bit of Killarney and the Dingle peninsula. What a beautiful place this is.
(PS @steven_lenton@nosycrow Look at our Octopus on the amazing balloon creation that school parent Jean Marie made for me!)
