Encompassing 96,000 SF over three continuous floors, @adyen ‘s workplace was designed to foster a welcoming, employee-first environment. The space features open workstations, huddle rooms, a commercial kitchen, a full service coffee bar, and a terrace that complements the lunch room. The 8th floor features a speakeasy, ideal for perfect for both client and employee entertainment. Redmond’s scope also included the construction of a new internal stair connecting levels 7 and 8, along with refinishing the existing interconnecting stair from level 6 and 7. It was a pleasure collaborating with our partners at @pbdchicago , @salasobrien , RIVOT, and @insidesourceinc to bring this space to life. Timber. Transit. Technology. T3 Sterling Road in Toronto's Lower Junction was designed around all three: mass timber construction, a Transit Score of 100, and WiredScore Gold certification across 415,000 square feet of creative office space. PBD served as the interior amenities and office designer, shaping the entry lobby, fitness center, rooftop terraces, tenant collaboration areas, and ground-floor retail into spaces that feel as considered as the building itself. Drawing on the Junction Triangle's graffiti art heritage and manufacturing history, PBD commissioned local artists including Trevor Wheatley, Dahae Song, Elise Goodhoofd, and PERU143 to bring murals, sculptures, and banners into the elevator lobbies, rooftop, and building exterior. Shipping containers were reimagined as tenant common areas. Flexible doors create space for both focused work and communal gathering. Adyen's Chicago office, located in the Fulton Market neighborhood, was designed to create a workspace that feels subtly branded and uniquely connected. The nearly 97,000-square-foot space spans multiple floors and emphasizes collaboration and well-being, blending open work areas with a variety of specialized rooms like focus spaces, demo and training rooms, to support both focused and team work. Amenities like a commercial kitchen with daily catered lunch, a staffed espresso and juice bar, outdoor terrace, and a pantry tap system for drinks enhance the employee experience and encourage informal interaction. Inclusive and practical touches including a parents' room, wellness room, all-gender restrooms, and 24/7 bike storage speak to a people-centered workplace. On the 8th floor, the speakeasy stands apart from everything else in the building. Dark walnut millwork, a marble-topped bar with a brass footrail, amber cove lighting, and backlit banana-print panels give the room a warm, deliberate theatricality, a space for the team to gather after hours and for Adyen to host clients in a setting that feels anything but corporate. Taken together, the design fosters connection, creativity, and comfort for a growing team deeply rooted in Chicago's tech ecosystem. @nbcchicago and @telemundochicago Chicago now operate from a single, unified facility at @nbctower PBD served as architect of record alongside our @oneglobaldesign partner @designrepublicpartners and @clunegc on the 70,000 SF renovation, which consolidated four fragmented floors into one and reimagined the building's second floor as a fully integrated, shoot-anywhere broadcast environment. Drawing inspiration from 30 Rock, the open, industrial design replaces siloed offices with a newsroom built for the way media actually moves today. A 40x60-foot LED wall and 20+ camera-ready locations are distributed across the floor, supported by five broadcast studios, two podcast suites, and a cloud-based production platform that lets teams serve audiences across broadcast, streaming, and social simultaneously. Informal collaboration zones, a game room, and a hidden speakeasy round out a workplace built for the full range of how people work and spend time together. See full project at link in bio. Materiality and geometric motifs were woven through the space with intention, from large-scale terrazzo at the base of the stair to an oversized beam in the cafe to a finely detailed rib pattern in the boardroom. The same design language, played at different scales, creates a consistent thread across all three floors. PBD is proud to have served as architect of record for the SKS showroom at THE MART in Chicago. Designed by Piero Lissoni, the nearly 9,000-square-foot space brings together five fully tailored kitchen environments, 20-foot islands, and more than 50 ultra-premium appliances in a gallery-like setting that lets the craft of each piece speak for itself. After 20 years in the same space, how do you help an organization feel like itself again in a place it has never been before? For this Chicago nonprofit, the answer lived in the details. An interconnecting stair that makes three floors feel like one. Operable partitions that let the space respond to the day. A sculptural light installation that coils from reception through a branded corridor, pulling people through the building and toward each other. A cafe with booths, communal tables, and a terrace designed for the kind of conversations that actually move things forward. This organization has called Chicago home for more than two decades.
