Our team attended a training hosted by @berglundconstruction . @sikausa presented “Structural Strengthening with FRP”, which included a live demonstration of installing fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) on both a column and a beam, along with a hands-on installation component. Berglund covered post-tension cable repair and provided a live demonstration.

Our team is heading back to class to present “Repair & Maintenance of Existing Buildings” at @illinois1867 They will explain building envelope repair and restoration and how students can utilize an architecture degree in the restoration industry.

Recently, our Inspectors’ Team earned their Boom Lift Certification and are now IPAF Certified.
This certification is a globally recognized qualification for operating Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) such as scissor lifts and boom lifts.

Recently, the @concreteaci Student Chapter invited Michelle Ryland, SE, RA, from our team, and Kristen Fuentes, from @pepperconstruction to present on our work on the @shedd_aquarium .
In “The Wonder of Water: The Making of Shedd’s Newest Gem”, Michelle explained the challenges involved in working on historic buildings with modern loading and the special detailing and design considerations required for aquarium design. Kristen discussed several constructability issues faced by the field team and the complex sequencing and formwork design solutions needed to make these habitats a reality.

Several members of our K&H team recently attended certification training with @usheritagegroup , expanding their expertise in historic masonry preservation.
Our team completed a variety of courses:
Lime Putty Mortar Installer Certification Training – Covered the history of masonry mortar in America, mortar mixing and preparation, wall preparation, and pointing practice.
Stone Repair Certification – Level 1 – Focused on learning material properties, common types/causes of stone deterioration (specifically limestone).
Stone Repair Certification – Level 2 – Practiced advanced patching mortar techniques for rock face textures, mechanical crack repair, stone casting, and working with profiled pieces.
