In tomorrow's
@ft_houseandhome it's garden column time again. This month, it's my much loved weeping ash, the witchy tree, often seen on this feed, which has finally succumbed to the terrible ash die back.
But his gnarled skeleton will stay on, a great organic totem and wildlife sanctuary (the birds love him). Inspired by the ancient Caledonian forest,
@ulamariastudio , the Ladybird book of Trees, and the M180 near Doncaster, the space he leaves behind will be filled by a newly planted copse of pine and birch, the bigger ones from
@deepdaletrees in Bedforshire, complete with their coloured ribbons, the others foraged here and there on my travels (thanks to
@chasgladstone for the smaller pines and larch, to my mum's neighbour Don for a bunch of small silver birch, and thanks also to Toyota for making the Prius a surprisingly roomy tree transportation vehicle).
Im wearing
@community_clothing rugby shirt, cotton walking socks and chore jeans.
