MOWAA (Museum of West African Art) - Museum in the Making. Preview Nov 4-5, 2024, Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. We’ve had the privilege of working with MOWAA since its inception on an ambitious vision. This preview was an exercise that aimed to explore how a new museum could potentially reframe the intersections between our material and cultural heritage. The vision of MOWAA’s program hopes to explore the Museum as a deconstructed space. Creating a campus driven by the ambition of interwoven, collaborative, and contemplative threads, specific to our region and context. 🙏🏿 …to #moeaateam and the wider design, construction, and cultural programming teams—Nnamdi, Adenike, Azeez, Fatima, Julie, Dike, Koso, Duche, Tosin, Adewale, Yinka, Mr. John, Michael & Alex @AM , Peace @kasa_konsultants_rammed_earth , Sami & A&K, Adjaye Associates, FOAB, Sea Surveyors, Avantis, Arup, Green Africa, The Benin Guilds (Bronze Casters & Pottery). Thank you to @mowaaofficial and the entire team for their passion and dedication—Phillip, Ore, Aindrea, Osaheni, Bolatito, Iwinosa, Hadiza, Kathleen, Temi, Alex, Joe, Kingsley, Segun-Bello, Dr. Segun, Charles, and many more… …and of course, in the height of Nigeria’s expansive Art Season, a very big thank you to everyone who came to support and show love (from far and wide). Stay blessed, good people. 🙏🏿 Here’s to the journey ahead in 2025… _ #moeaa #museumofwestafricanart #mowaa #benincity

The 2nd @sharjaharchitecture Architectural Triennial is now open. Curated by @tosin.oshinowo The theme of the Triennial is ‘The Beauty of Impermanence’: An Architecture of Adaptability _ Our intervention is titled ‘We Rest At the Birds Nest’ _ The project is lead by @papaomotayo and @evennaji for @moeaa.feed @add_apt and is situated in Industrial Area 5, Sharjah, UAE _ The intervention uses waste vegetation, paper, card and other materials to create a place to nest for the existing bird ecology as well as a place to rest for the migrant workers in the area, currently tendering birds in makeshift aviaries. _ ‘We Rest At The Birds Nest’ is an olive branch, a space to connect human and non human life in the midst of the machine. _ This was a truly blessed process from our first visit in September 2022 to creating a new material language. Our deepest gratitude goes out to @tosin.oshinowo @hooralq Mona Elmousfy, @mattmaganga , Raghad AlAli, Tamara Barrage. Also Sahil Abdul Lateef and Shameen Inayat for introducing us to the area…the entire extended SAT 💥. _ Huge thanks to the material development team, the site and construction crews who worked tirelessly day and night to make this a reality and the community around the site who made us feel welcome and cheered us on…cause body no gree…ish was real!! Masha Allah 🙏🏿 _ Shout out to naija crew @adeyemo_shokunbi @afrominiman @oluseunie @uptown_oyinda @art_tafeta for representing! Stay blessed 🙏🏿 _ #sharjah #werestatthebirdanest #moeaa

Title: Gbogbo odo lo no owo si olokun". All rivers point to a source. (We are all connected through a source) Production Series 2: Film, Performance and Sound The film performance, visuals and sound were recorded over 2 days in Lagos. Set in a rupture (hole) on an active construction site, the film, the body movements and indigenous sounds explore alternative knowledge and ways of making through a past future calling to ‘being’ from the source, Eledumare (God). These themes of the title ‘ Gbogbo odo lo no owo si olokun’, are explored through 3 interdisciplinary practices. 1. Marking : 10 hand carved mahogany planks 2. Performance and Film : a 10 min projection 3. Title: “Gbogbo odo lo no owo si olokun". All rivers point to a source. (We are all connected through a source) Production Series 1: 10 Hand Carved Plaques This project uses 10 hand carved mahogany wooden plaques to create a new form and intervention in the round. The concept explores themes of making, architecture and ecology informed by notions of Yoruba ancestral traditions and a projection of it’s future past. The new rounded form finds the ground through the projection of a visual narrative film. The film arcs the circularity of life - through water, and a calling to being from Eledumare (God) These themes of ‘ Gbogbo odo lo no owo si olokun’, are explored through 3 interdisciplinary practices. 1. Marking : 10 hand carved mahogany wooden planks 2. Drawing and Animation: a series of animated drawings 3.
