[dutch version below] New resident! We warmly welcome Chantal Michelle to Overtoon for a production residency, where she will continue working on her installation A Vulnerable Landscape. Chantal Michelle is a composer and interdisciplinary artist whose work engages with the spatial, tactile, and perceptual dimensions of sound. Her practice incorporates feedback systems, multichannel compositions, and psychoacoustic phenomena to explore the mutability of perception and its capacity to be disrupted or reconstructed. Her projects include site-responsive installations, hand-blown glass instruments, conceptual scores, and recorded material. We are very much looking forward to having her in Brussels over the coming weeks! 〜〜〜〜〜 Nieuwe resident! We welcome Ewoud Van Eetvelde @ewoudvan.e , an electroacoustic composer, installation artist, and professional guitarist based in Brussels, for a residency to continue his work on ‘Dromentuin’. Over the past years, his artistic work has evolved toward exploring sound and composition as architecture— as a space that can be hospitable and transformative through collective listening. Blending computational synthesis and microphone recordings, his practice merges environments that oscillate between worldly and the virtual. ~~~~~ Nieuwe resident bij Overtoon HQ! We verwelkomen Ewoud Van Eetvelde, een elektro-akoestische componist, installatiekunstenaar en professioneel gitarist uit Brussel die zich tijdens zijn residentie zal toespitsen op zijn installatie ‘Dromentuin’. De afgelopen jaren is zijn artistieke werk geëvolueerd naar het verkennen van geluid en compositie als architectuur – als een ruimte die gastvrij en transformatief kan zijn door collectief luisteren. Via de combinatie van computationele synthese en microfoonopnames, versmelt zijn praktijk omgevingen die oscilleren tussen het wereldse en het virtuele.

After several months of work and a residency at @ohme_projects and @overtoooooon , I can share a first version of my new installation, Symphonie d’une combustion. It still needs a few adjustments and some compositional work, but this new instrument is almost ready to live a life of its own, and I am deeply moved. Symphonie d’une combustion is an installation in which drops of water, controlled by Arduino-driven motors, fall at different frequencies onto heated plates, creating combustion sounds and organic patterns. These sounds are amplified using microphones and looped with loopers. Gradually, the sonic composition evolves according to changes in temperature and humidity within the installation—data captured by sensors placed directly on the structure. I have been working on this project since 2015, with a first version built when I was a student. Today, the instrument is fully automated, and its sound evolves in real time according to the temperature and humidity parameters of the installation. A large piece of machinery. This project would not have been possible without the support of the @federation_wallonie_bruxelles , and the co-production of @stukleuven , @overtoooooon , and the @cwb_paris . And of course, without the work and support of my collaborators @elie_aussi and Simon Lehmans. I worked with @ateliergamil for the glass, and with my friend @c_l_a_r_k_x , with whom we built the metal structure. In the meantime, it is resting in my studio, before receiving its final adjustments. Anouk Llaurens’ residency at Overtoon will be devoted to research into the vocal dimension of 'Tremor, ritual for oblivion', a transdisciplinary project that combines dance, calligraphy and singing. And Melissa Ryke @melryke continues her research for the installation 'Last Summer’s Yield', which she presented a couple of weeks ago during Emerging Sound at STUK Leuven @stukleuven . She'll be working on her new installation called "Symphonie d'une combustion", an immersive sound and visual installation situated at the intersection of sound art, sculpture, and performance. "Symphonie d'une combustion" is a co-production between Overtoon, @stukleuven and @cwb_paris . 〰️〰️〰️ We zijn verheugd om Clarice Calvo-Pinsolle opnieuw te mogen verwelkomen voor een residentie bij Overtoon. Ze zal werken aan haar nieuwe installatie "Symphonie d'une combustion", een immersieve installatie op het kruispunt van geluidskunst, sculptuur en performance. (Dutch version below) We’re back! - even though we never left. Some updates on what’s been happening here at Overtoon HQ. Looking forward to these new horizons! 〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️ Hallo, Klopt: het is alweer een hele tijd geleden sinds ons vorig bericht. We kijken er naar uit om terug van ons te laten horen en samen nieuwe horizonten te verkennen. Allereerst heten we Natasha Pirard van harte welkom als nieuwe artistiek leider en jouw contactpersoon voor toekomstige projecten en samenwerkingen. Als musicologe heeft ze doorheen de jaren een grote affiniteit opgebouwd met geluidskunst, met een bijzondere interesse in sociale, politieke en ecologische kunstpraktijken. Ze brengt een brede achtergrond in kunst, muziek en theorie in de geluidskunst mee, en blijft tegelijk actief onderzoeken welke sociale en culturele relevantie geluidskunst kan hebben. Ze beoogt deze interesses op innovatieve en betekenisvolle wijze verder uit te werken. In september vonden er twee residenties plaats bij Overtoon. Stijn Demeulenaere voltooide zijn installatie Sounding Lines (Wading version), die in première ging op Ars Electronica 2025. Lotte Nijsten & Gillis Van Der Wee, bekend als Landforms, werkten verder aan hun installatie Concrete Studies I met een presentatie tijdens STUK Start 2025 waarmee het nieuwe culturele seizoen werd geopend. A few glimpses from my research residency at @overtoooooon last March 🪴 An installation of modular spaces and resonant bodies, inspired by Ursula K. Le Guin’s book The Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction 💚 I explored the sonic and performative potential of handmade ceramic instruments : aerophones, bells, percussive objects, imagined as fragile vessels of breath and resistance. These ephemeral zones were conceived as speculative gardens, where each gesture becomes a form of attention, and sound unfolds like a shared ecology 💦 Thanks to @moumousseparty54 & @3pppcai from @aculi.fr for the beautiful sage-coloured natural glaze 🫧🤍 Thanks to @johanna.grivel for firing the bells 🫶

Through the conscious layering of complex textures, they seek to guide the listener into a state of catharsis — one that functions as both an antidote and mirror to society. ⎤⎤⎤‘s work has been presented at Fridman Gallery [NY], Morphine Raum [DE], and Ormside Projects [UK]. They released their debut album on the Italian label SUPERPANG in November of 2023 and will premiere a new work of their performance at sculpture park, Opus 40 with Notice Recordings in 2025.

Deze informatie wordt vertaald naar geluid, en vormt een sonisch dagboek van het opnameproces. Overtoon speelt een sleutelrol in mijn lopend onderzoek naar domesticatie – van geluid, van onszelf, en van de beteugeling van vibratie; ley-lijnen; de panty’s van mijn moeder; en wat het betekent om verbinding te maken met onze oorsprong.” Grace Villamil @viagracia is een interdisciplinaire kunstenaar uit New Jersey. Via geluid, video, performance en materiaal onderzoekt ze persoonlijke geschiedenis en de lichamelijkheid van belichaamd geluid en haar fenomenen. Het creëren van regeneratieve systemen en thema’s als noise, spel, voorouderlijk graven en tijdelijkheid vormen de kern van haar praktijk. Overtoon Residencies: We zijn heel blij om QOA en Primeiro te verwelkomen in de Overtoon-werkruimte van 18 tot 21 november! Over hun tijd bij ons: “Geïnspireerd door het concept van animisme vertrekt Feed the River vanuit het idee dat rivieren levende wezens zijn — en zoals alle wezens moeten ze gevoed worden. In eerdere projecten gebruikten we geluid als medium om in interactie te treden met rivieren, en voedden we ze met muziek. Deze benadering bleek transformerend in het herdenken van rivieren als voelende entiteiten. We zijn vooral geïnteresseerd in de verbindingen tussen geluid en ecologisch bewustzijn, en in hoe geluid een dialoog tussen mens en niet-mens kan stimuleren. Een rivier is een partner in wederzijdse uitwisseling" QOA @qoa.koa werkt met luisteren als middel om af te stemmen op onze omgeving en onszelf. Ze focussen op de materialiteit van geluid als vibrerende aanwezigheid die zich door de lucht beweegt. Hun werk creëert lichamelijke luisterervaringen die ons uitnodigen om in zwevende tijd te duiken. Hun klanken variëren van minimale frequenties, bewerkte field recordings, live sampling van akoestische objecten, spoken word, synthese en ritmische spectrale vervorming. QOA maakt deel uit van AMPLIFY Digital Arts Initiative. Hun werk werd internationaal gepresenteerd. Hun nieuwe album Sauco verschijnt binnenkort op Leaving Records. Primeiro @primeiro.segundo is een experimentele elektronische muzikant uit Buenos Aires. Zijn muziek overstijgt grenzen en beweegt zich tussen ambient, handgemaakte trance en meer. Hoewel zijn werk eerst een gevoel van rust oproept à la Hiroshi Yoshimura, onthult dieper luisteren gelaagde composities en verfijnde arpeggio’s. In 2023 bracht hij zijn debuutalbum Music for Horses uit bij het Berlijnse label Danzee. Hij deelde het podium met o.a.
