What would nature say? -- What if plants had something to say? And if we truly took the time to listen? 🪴🎧️ During the workshop “What Would Nature Say?”, we walked from STUK to the Kruidtuin Leuven for a sensory exploration of listening, care and nature. Artist Lotte Nijsten let participants hear what plants sound like when they are watered. Part of the walk even took place blindfolded, sharpening the senses. 🌱 The workshop was part of the Culture & Care conference in Leuven, within the LOV project Body & Soul. 🎙️ Emma Ducheyne followed the experience and will turn it into a podcast. 📷️ @stafsmets #LOV2030 #WhatWouldNatureSay #BodyAndSoul #CultureAndCare #EuropeanCapitalOfCulture #EuropeseCultureleHoofdstad #ECOC #LeuvenAndBeyond

What a way to start the autumn!🍁🍂 Over the summer, @gillisvdw and I finished our new sound installation, Concrete Studies I, that was first presented during STUK START in september. In the sound installation seven concrete slabs are set into vibration, creating a continuous feedback loop. The result is a dynamic soundscape, interwoven with recordings of urban infrastructure, inviting reflection on what it means for seemingly lifeless materials to feel alive. Many thanks to our incredible partners STUK, Werktank and Overtoon 🙏 © Visuals by Joeri Thiry

Thank you Gillis Van Der Wee and Lotte Nijsten for sending us your work! "Polyphonies is a sound composition that takes listeners on an acoustic journey through the polyphonic soundscape of the North Sea. By weaving together anthrophone, biophone and technophone sounds, Lotte and Gillis explore sonic analogies between human and non-human worlds. Using a mix of voice recordings, foley, and field recordings, they create an electroacoustic piece that emphasizes the interconnectedness of life at sea. Liquid Polyphonies was created as part of the residency program of Phonurgia Nova (FR) at GMEM Marseille." #northsea #fieldrecordings #electroacoustic #sealife

‘There are Tides and Flows in this Body’ is a multi-channel installation that invites the listener to the soundscape of subterranean Brussels. By using concrete water basins and speakers, @gillisvdw and I created a watery soundscape that explores the physical relationship between sound and space. Currently @lavallee_bxl for @lasemaineduson.be this week. Welcome to come by during the opening today (15u-21u) x

EN « Liquid Polyphonies » is a sound composition that invites the listener on an acoustic journey through the polyphonic soundscape of the North Sea. Using sounds recorded during field research in the European parts of the North Sea (2022), Lotte and Gillis create an electroacoustic composition where marine life, technology, industry and science intertwine. In creating this piece, Lotte and Gillis reflected on the epistemological possibilities of sound and their own position in the field as recorders: What can sounds tell us about the socio-economic and ecological contexts of damaged landscapes? And what role do we play as field archivists?
