New @_extant_ EXCURSION #8
Friday September 19th | 15h-17h
This excursion invites you to join Lotte Nijsten and Gillis Van Der Wee as they talk about their conceptual and technical process behind Concrete Studies I. The work is a multi-channel installation that immerses the listener in the underground soundscape of Brussels. By using concrete slabs as ‘loudspeakers,’ Lotte and Gillis create a soundscape that explores the physical relationship between sound and space.
The installation will be presented during STUK Start. Register for the excursion before September 17th to get a DISCOUNT(!!) on the full Friday evening program, September 19th!

« Liquid Polyphonies » is a sound composition that invites the listener on an acoustic journey through the polyphonic soundscape of the North Sea. Using sounds recorded during field research in the European parts of the North Sea (2022), Lotte and Gillis create an electroacoustic composition where marine life, technology, industry and science intertwine.
In creating this piece, Lotte and Gillis reflected on the epistemological possibilities of sound and their own position in the field as recorders: What can sounds tell us about the socio-economic and ecological contexts of damaged landscapes? And what role do we play as field archivists?

Feeling happy and blessed that @gillisvdw and I were invited to share a first version of our new sound composition ‘Liquid Polyphonies’ at the ‘Everybody Hertz’ sound festival, while also sharing some insights and thoughts on our research process and artistic practice.
A big thank you to @jeroenvdsd and the whole crew for organizing the festival. We have enjoyed listening to the inspiring performances and sound installations from amazing radio alumni like eedyat @anoukkellner@ambermeulenijzer@lukasdeclerckkk@zzztijn@jeroen_uyttendaele and @roelheremans
We are happy to present our latest work: 'Two Feet, Two Ears'.
A twelve channel site specific sound installation that honors the architectural design of Alfons Hoppenbrouwers’ CC Westrand in Dilbeek, by using natural sound textures such as sand, water and wind. The body of the speakers were made using simple materials such as concrete and wood, as a hommage to the brutalist design of the building.
The installation is part of a wonderful exposition that celebrates the 50 year anniversary of CC Westrand. Now open to explore @westranddilbeek !
So delighted to have been given this amazing opportunity by @lauralievevrouw & Elsemieke De Troy.
A big thank you to @jeroenvdsd for all the help and advice while building this installation.
Exactly one year ago, we created OBSCUUR, an audiopiece about the underground of Brussels.
We couldn't be happier and more proud to announce that we received the "Prix découvertes Pierre Schaeffer" @phonurgia_nova for OBSCUUR!🙉
A big thank you @acsr.be and @carmelo_acsr for giving us this amazing opportunity and for guiding us during our journey. Also special thanks to @mivbstib , @cwb_paris and Lucas Derycke.
