A special BTS look for @oursubscription . When my assistant director @lea.nicolee and I decided that my story should be in the film I had no idea what that’d look like. In fact, I didn’t even know I had a story. At the time, I didn’t have a full production team, so I thought I’d film myself talking to the camera and maybe that would be good enough - yet I knew deep down it wouldn’t do it justice. I wanted to capture that all consuming feeling of pure raw phone addiction, a technology that has become an extension of our bodies—whether consented or not.
I never thought I’d have the privilege of having an entire production crew in my bedroom to help bring our vision to life. With thanks to @rtyouthpower and everyone who made this shoot possible I felt my story was finally done justice.

Had the most insane time filming for @oursubscription . Upon realizing that my story of phone addiction would become an important part of the film, I thought for a while about how to tell it in an impactful and authentic way. I wanted to capture that inescapable feeling of overwhelm from constant distraction. I never imagined it would lead to a full film crew in my bedroom. Here’s a first look at that process :)
We put this shoot together in 48 hours to capture myself and @maddiecfreeman speaking at the UN Science Summit. Though incredibly stressful, it was super rewarding to capture youth power with a cinematic camera for the film. Huge thank you to everyone who helped make this possible!

speaking at @sxsw was a dream come true. i had it in my vision board exactly one year prior, wanting it so badly. and i could not have had a better experience surrounded by the people i started this work with.
it was deeply important to me to moderate a panel about youth storytelling, agency as digital natives, and the importance of protecting our stories.
i’d call it a success and am grateful to everyone who came!
i never thought a group of 50+ people in the tech industry would resonate with my story. it was really cool to meet people who wanted to use and create technology responsibly, and i was grateful to @bepresentapp for inviting me to speak at #nyctechweek.
the time i was invited to speak at the @unitednations science summit about my journey creating @oursubscription to addiction. this was especially meaningful because it dawned on me that this would be good footage for the film and so i also organized a professional film shoot in 48 hours 😭😮💨
