#LOPF2026 returns to @somersethouse with a radical shift in exhibitors and new media. Several exhibitors have opted for single artist surveys, such as the works of Patrick Proctor, William Tillyer, and Thomas Gosebruch. The @hepworthwakefield (stand S3) has also joined the fray of museums selling editions to fundraise their initiatives. Meanwhile, sculpture has an increased presence at the fair, particularly with Jeremy Fry: Unlimited (stand E12), adding emphasis to the category of 'editions' at the print fair. As the definition of prints and editions expands, it seems traditional print fairs are increasingly incorporating sculptural elements into their roster. Generally, this year was a mixed bag for me; very few things blew me away, but there were definitely surprising techniques to discover. Here are my highlights: 1️⃣ John Byrne, 'A Hat, A Rose, A Shoe and A Leaf', 1999, screenprint (@glasgowprintstudio , stand W2) 2️⃣ Marcelina Amelia (@marcelinaamelia ), 'This Time I Kept Me', 2026, hand-finished lithograph (@ccagalleries , stand W3) 3️⃣ Pablo Picasso, 'Couple debout', 1959, linocuts printed in colours (@fmulderltd , stand W4) 4️⃣ Chloe Barnes (@chloe_barnes_artist ) at @julianbgpage (stand W7) 5️⃣ Albrecht Dürer, 'Cardinal Albrecht of Brandenburg (The Small Cardinal)', 1519, engraving, Meder Ia impression, before the book edition of 1520 (@jettefineart , stand S1) 6️⃣ Matija Čop (@matijacop ) at @upsilongallery (stand S2) 7️⃣ Apichaya Wanthiang (@piya__________w ) at @trykkeriet (stand S8) 8️⃣ William Tillyer at @jacobsongalleryofficial (stand S12) 9️⃣ Cat Spilman (@catannedunlea ), 'Chonk', 2026, two-colour screenprint, hand-finished with crayon, printer's proof (@rhodescontemporaryart , stand S13) 🔟 Christopher Moon (@chris.moon1970 ), 'Flying Sun Cat', 2026, drypoint and monoprint (@artichokeprintworkshop , stand E7) London Original Print Fair 2026 (14-17 May 2026) 📍Somerset House #ReviewsByNigel #nigelip #Printmaking #ArtFair @londonoriginalprintfair

For their 5th participation at @londoncraftweek , @crafts_on_peel_hk has brought together five fascinating craftspeople who are taking Chinese traditional techniques and reworking them with a modernist spin. Entitled 'Creative Cross-Pollination: The Future of Crafts', the presentation at @royal_sculptors features extraordinary works in gold leaf, embroidery, filigree, galvanised iron, and bamboo. All of the works are intended to be touched and handled, allowing for an immersive, tactile experience in the appreciation of materials and techniques, while also recognising their functional purposes. Keeping to the London theme, Inkgo Lam (@inkgolam ) has constructed a beautiful set of bamboo dim sum steamers in the shape of the Big Ben tower. Meanwhile, Huimin Zhang (@im.huimin ) has redefined the limits of gold filigree in her intricately woven blossoms using metal threads as thin as 0.08mm. The exhibition also has a focus on masters and their disciples. Naam Yu (@louud_galvanized_crafts ) and Master Michael Yu (@yu_kwok_keung_michael ) worked together on a Hong Kong junk boat made of galvanised iron, incorporating old working methods and modern laser-cutting technology. The same surface designs have also been incorporated into a series of lamp shades, paying homage to Hong Kong's market aesthetic. The heirs of two of Hong Kong's renowned gold-gilding families have also joined forces here. Anson Lai (@ansonlaiyc ) collaborated with Cheung Lee Wood Carving & Gold Gilding (@aurum24kgoldleaf ) to produce a set of five Bauhinia flowers in wood, ceramic, and with 3D-printing. Visitors will also have a chance to try their hand at gilding. Finally, Elaine Yan Ling Ng (@thefabricklab ) and Master Wang Xinyuan reinterpreted Guangzhou Embroidery - part of China’s Intangible Cultural Heritage - in their textile-sculpture installation inspired by Scholar's Rocks. Using Elaine's knitted Rêverie textiles as a base, Master Wang has hand-embroidered colourful forms on top. Visitors should also pick up a UV-light torch to uncover the hidden motifs all over the sculpture. #ReviewsByNigel #nigelip #CraftsonPeel #LondonCraftWeek2026 #飄雅活藝 @artouchconsulting

A few shots from my curated exhibition at @apsara.studio titled #WaysOfPerceiving - a homage to John Berger's book 'Ways of Seeing' - focusing meditation on slow looking and the mechanisms of human perception. "Like the opening lines of Berger’s seminal text – ‘Seeing comes before words’ – perception provides a rational framework for us to view the world and our experiences within it. Filtered through the rose-tinted glasses of our upbringing, accumulated knowledge, and society’s nurtured biases, it rarely offers a truthful account of events. Instead, we are left with an aesthetic experience that is personal and nuanced, where meaning is derived from our own creative thoughts, emotions, and associations. Yet, at times, the collective observations of a community can bring that experience in line with relational art. [...] In this exhibition, perception is understood as a multifaceted experience, one that can trigger questions and inquiry, or protect us from the harsh truths of human existence. In doing so, we are all invited to embark on an introspective journey through sites of memory, cultural phenomena, and relational aesthetics." Developed out of the @handson.projects residency, it features five wonderful artists across painting, embroidery, and installation: Laetitzia Campbell (@laetitziacampbell ), Becca Ellis (@bekaellis ), Haoua Habré (@indigo.hbr ), Fatemeh Heidarhosseini (@fatemeh.heidarhosseini ), and Lícia Santos (@licia_santos ). The physical exhibition ends tomorrow, but continues virtually online until 25 May: /waysofperceiving-viewingroom Ways of Perceiving (28 April - 2 May 2026) 📍Apsara Studio, 200 Battersea Park Road, London, SW11 4ND #nigelip #HandsOnResidency #ApsaraStudio #EmergingArtists

#gallarista @mark_vellacott has acquired 4 works from the ‘Ways of Perceiving’ exhibition for his personal collection - on until 2 May at the @apsara.studio in Battersea. A must see ‘Final Residency Show’ produced by @handson.projects and beautifully curated by @nigelip Well done to all involved. The three small ‘vessel’ works are by @bekaellis , and the haunting dark abstract landscape by @fatemeh.heidarhosseini - inspired by the on going conflict in Iran. Very impressive work by both Becca and Fatemeh - backed by such powerful stories. Also very impressed by the work of the other artists in the show. Laetitzia Cambell (@laetitziacampbell ), Haoua Habré (@indigo.hbr ), and Lícia Santos (@licia_santos ). Bios of Becca and Fatemeh from the show program: Becca Ellis is a Bristol-based oil painter whose work uses the idea of the “vessel” to explore the human condition through paint. A 2023 Camberwell College of Arts graduate, she blends research into natural and philosophical ideas with an intuitive, gestural approach. Her work explores the space between material and immaterial experience and has been exhibited across London and Bristol. Fatemeh Heidarhosseini is an Iranian painter based in London whose work explores memory, displacement, and environmental experience. A 2025 Royal College of Art graduate, she draws on her upbringing in Tehran and life in the UK to create psychological, abstract landscapes. Working in layered oil paint, she evokes states of memory, grief, and unease, and has exhibited in London. #leicax2
