Join us at the Royal Society of Sculptors for our Panel Discussion: Material Innovation and Contemporary Craft Creations. Hosted by Crafts on Peel’s Creative Director and Curator Penelope Luk, the session will feature exhibiting Craft Fellows Anson Lai, Elaine Yan Ling Ng and Naam Yu, who will discuss the role of innovative materials and modern manufacturing techniques in reviving, reinterpreting and perpetuating traditional crafts.

Can embroidery become sculpture?
Inside the studio, curiosity comes before discovery.
For Master Wang Xinyuan, innovation meant rethinking centuries of techniques. Elaine’s copper mesh is a precise, rigid, unfamiliar landscape for the embroiderer, and it took nearly a month of testing for Wang to master the coexistence of these contrasting textures.
For Elaine Yan Ling Ng (@thefabricklab ), the starting point of invention is to challenge tradition. By envisioning Guangzhou embroidery beyond silk and soft fabrics, she reimagines its textures onto metal mesh.
The collaborative series The Scholar’s Rock Series: Threaded Whispers by Master Wang Xinyuan and Elaine Yan Ling Ng will be presented in the UK for the first time at this year’s London Craft Week.

刺繡可以成為雕塑嗎？
在工作室裡，探索往往始於好奇心。
對國家級非遺廣繡代表性傳承人王新元來說，創新意味著重新思考延續數百年的技藝。吳氏的銅線編織對刺繡者來說是精密而堅硬及陌生的領域，王氏的團隊花了近一個月的時間反覆測試，才成功掌握兩種技藝共存的可能性。
對當代紡織設計師吳燕玲（@thefabricklab ）而言，創作的起點在於挑戰傳統，她將廣繡從絲綢與柔軟布料中釋放出來並在金屬織材上從新演繹它的質感。
由王新元與吳燕玲共同創作的銅織刺繡雕塑《文人石系列：時光繡語》，將在今年倫敦工藝週展出。這也是該系列作品首次於英國亮相。

Generously supported by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London (FB: /hketolondonuk), the exhibition “Creative Cross Pollination: The Future of Crafts” will be on view from 11 to 17 May 2026 at the historic Royal Society of Sculptors (@royal_sculptors ) in South Kensington, London. The exhibition features selected works from our Hong Kong exhibition and new commissioned works, accompanied by daily gold gilding demonstration by Anson Lai (@aurum24kgoldleaf ).
